Scary images from South Africa

NIFE EDGE: An immigrant waits for gangs of locals that attacked foreign shop owners in the Durban city centre yesterday. At least three people were stabbed and one burnt.
About 200 people stoned foreign-owned shops on Dr Pixley KaSeme Street (West Street), prompting riot police to shut down the area.

The battles broke out within an hour of Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba assuring diplomats from Nigeria, Somalia, Malawi, Mozambique and Ethiopia that their citizens would be protected.

At the same time the ministers of the justice, crime prevention and security cluster tried to assure the country that "everything was under control" and that there was no xenophobia.

They said the ongoing violence in Durban - which has left at least five people, including a 14-year-old, dead - was ideological.

The attacks spread further north last night. Two foreign-owned shops were looted during load-shedding in Verulam.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the two shops were looted at 7pm.

Fight or Flight I guess we know which one he's choosing :lupe:

Why do these people remain in South Africa? Wouldn't you rather be killed in your own country and even be hungry and struggling than burnt by insane people in a far flung state

zup bv!

I think they should fight back for the short term and plan a way to leave that crazy place. I dnt blame them for being in a foreign land. xenophobia is everywhere, the only diff is that the are hard to break laws in the west. lucky u and me :).

Hey Waryaa

I was curious but dared not click on the other thread with the warning. You are right, Europe in particular has a long history in crazy xenophobic attacks. I always thought I'd leave as soon as possible but opportunities have a way of encouraging risky behaviour. Ilahey kuligeen ha nagu amaansado

But I'll always keep an eye out and be ready to take the first flight out. No amount of money or opportunity is worth impalement

I heard the South Africans are only targeting African immigrants and not white immigrants.

This is really sad. Is this happening only in the Sowetos and ghetto areas or is't all across SA?
