So it's not surprise that a Somali would claim to be more patriotic than an Ethiopia or that he would not agree that Ethiopians are more patriotic.
For Ethiopians spiritually and nationalism are one and the same thing. It is long embedded in their Tewahedo faith.
Somalis are Muslim and Muslims are generally taught that faith comes before tribalism, nationalism and any ethnic tag not that Somalis follow the Islamic doctrine anyways. But nationalism is always in the back for most Muslims.
In Ethiopia the Tewahedo church (Orthodox) teaches them that Ethiopia is the holy and promised land. They believe after the Israelites turned on Jesus they sinned and so Solomon who foreseen this told his Queen (Shiba/Saba/Balqis) to take their son and the Ark of the Covenant to Ethiopia. There they were to establish a new holy Kingdom to save guard the teachings of God. The land of Ethiopia was an endless one and its boundaries is marked from Jerusalem to where the sunsets.
This is why Ethiopians believe not only Somalia and Djibouti are part of Ethiopia but actually the entire Africa is Ethiopia.
So if you were to really compare Ethiopians thinking to Somalis you have to compare Ethiopic teachings to the Islamic views about the Ummah. Thus their views are much much higher than Somalis. It is not tribe X dominating Y or X and Y uniting to dominate the neighbour but it is of spiritual greatness---a prophecy. Godly empire. These teachings are delivered under the closely guarded secrets of the Church which also decided the Emperors thus known as Kabra Nagast (The Glory of the Kings). It was delivered to Ethiopia by either Egyptian or Greek priest. It was written in the Geez, which by the way is written in the original Arabic. The current Arabic script that you all familiar with and know as Arabic is actually Persian. The Arabs adopted from Persia. The Ethiopians kept the original Arabic script. Indeed, Amharic which is a child of the Geez is more Arabic than the Somali language. In fact, the Arabic in Amharic is more original than Arabic in modern day in Arabic.
If Somalis wish to be patriotic and challenge their region than they should develop their nationhood to a spiritual level
For Ethiopians Ethiopia is the promised land. The Kingdom of God and its blue Nile River (Abay River) is the Biblical Felege Ghion, one of four rivers that flow from Eden itself.
Stay tuned guys. Remember there are no emotions in knowledge nor in politics. The problem with Somalis is they all far too emotional including boasting about nothing. Reality check guys.
