Sarbeeb means Hal-Xidhaale / Hal-Xiraale. The Sarbeeb word is used in the South, and Hal-Xidhaale / Hal-Xiraale is used in the north-west, north-east, and central regions of Somalia.

This is one of them:

1. You were courting a woman, and she told you to come to her when stars are up and the moon is down!

In Somali: Gabadh baad shukaansanaysay, waxay ku tiri, ii kaalay marka dayaxu dhaco, xidiguhuna soo jeedaan.

You tell me what she meant?

I think there's more than poetry to it. It simply means hint, allude to, etc.

Like u say u wanna have a chewing gum, in a politically correct way to somebody than say ur breath is killing me. You hint the actual concern without saying it out laud.

Somalis, especially reer coofur say it so reer magalnimo ugh sheeg = so sarbeb.

Sarbeeb is defined in the somali dictionary as ”hadal maldahan oo macne ku qarsoon yahay” ( a statement that disguises a message/meaning”.

Maldahan= qarsoon

Somali say “sarbeeb sir ma aha”

Gegiroor; Hal xiraale and sarbeeb are two different things:
Xal xiraale =a riddle (that is exactly what the lady did)

Almost all somalis I have met call it sarbeeb; even from the hinterland o waqooyi saaxib

Sarbeeb= Statement of euphemism?

Aisha,

While you're still figuring out the first one, here is another one: A lady give you meat and she asked you to eat the halal one and don't eat the haram (forbidden) one. What did she mean?
