I noticed 18 may preparation activities is very slow compare to the last 4 years even Somaliland patriotic song production decreased this year. I just encountered two patriotic songs which I like to share with you.

1. Dib u curaray maandeeq by Nice stars
2. guul ku taamnay by xidigaha geeska
share if you have any other activities related to 18 may 2015

18 May is a mockery of the armed struggle. Somaliland's real independence is June 26, 1960.

I think I know where you guys are coming from, am I correct in believing
you have a problem with 18 may being styled as "independence day" in
the minds of most Somalilanders?

If that is the case, it is a reasonable position....laakin to claim
that it is a mockery of our armed struggle to free ourselves from
the clutches of Mogadishu is a stretch.

That's the case as far as I'm
concerned.SL became an independent country on 26/6/1960.Short lived though it might have been 35 countries diplomatically recognized the State of Somaliland during that time including all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council

SNM battle cry was

Habeen Lixdan Kii Ah
Libteynu Haleelney
Rageynu Hor Geyney
Miyaa Heerey

My problem with 18 May is that currently there is very little to celebrate in Somaliland.

-A growing Tahriib problem that will lead to a demogrpahic crisis in the next few years.
- A nationwide qat addiction that costs the country billions of dollars over the last 5 years alone.
-Water shortages in the main cities, despite sitting on large underground aquifers.
-Zero economic growth and zero industry to speak of. A nation that relies on remittance and lifestock, two very unpredictable sectors.
- As a result of zero growth, zero jobs being created and the few that are created are taken up either by foreigners or distributed unfairly due to tribal nepotism. This problem is directly related to the tahriib crisis as well.
-High crime rate. Rape, robbery and murder spiking.
- A stagnant and corrupt political system that only has the thin veneer of democracy but is really a clanocratic nepotistic institution. I've said this before and I'll say it again; I'd rather live in a rich dictatorship than a poor demcracy. There's a reason why Dubai is a world destination and nobody even nows if SL exists.

Lakiin I can't wait to Party on the 18th. :Blessed:

18 May parties are getting meaningless. It's just become a day where people can mindlessly turnup, as opposed being an anniversary of one of the most pivotal points in Somaliland's history.

The SNM fought to end injustice. They did not fight so that former Afweyne dickriders, some of them Isaaq, could put on a Somaliland flag and dance with the enemies on useless parties. The most anti SL people come to these parties and it's disgusting because their presence and the whole festivity bs trivializes the entire struggle.

I also have a problem with 18 May being declared as Somaliland's independence date. 18 May is the day we redeclared our independence, however it was on June 26 that our country gained its independence and became a sovereign state.

Anyone know where may 18th is going to be held in London this year? Last year it was held in East london, and it was really nice. Even Mo Farah came along.
