Returning to Hargeisa

Post by EvolSyawla »

Every time I come back after a good trip elsewhere, I go through about 2-3 days of depression and defeat as I...readjust. :?

The fact that we have one good road in the city. No running water. Qashin, friking goats and xoolo picking their nose any time you step outside.

Being unable to walk somewhere without 30 guys sitting at a makhayad staring at you with a cup of shaah at their mouth.

Men and women walking past each other without the lewd looks or comments!

Not being able to get in a car with your girlfriends, have lunch, shop and enjoy your time without the awkwardness that goes hand in hand.

How many traffic jams did I see in Addis, and not one person honked like a mirqaan crazy man and drive on curbs (we don't actually have curbs, nvm) just to avoid the traffic - even though there were no traffic police!

Eating and drinking at pretty restaurants and never once thinking you'll come across barambaro body parts.

:wow: I could go on, but I love Somalis. So I won't. But damn, we've got a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG way to go.

But you're a guy. You will have a much more open and entertaining time than I do. *sigh*

It means they are uncultured animals with nothing better to do than sit at a coffee spot with obviously nothing to talk about. Better idea - be productive. :D

I sincerely wish Somalis had the same pride Ethiopians in Addis have. We're proud of 'having time to sit for coffee' instead of being proud of working hard.

Hargeisa is actually doing well if you take everything into consideration, sure the place got a long way to go in terms of water supply, roads and sanitation but that will all come along once the local government is able to operate with a higher budget, progress demands more than just peace lacag aya lo bahanyahay.

As for the behaviour of the locals  waxaas waa caadi have you never been to a maqaayad or a coffe shop where you live? Faraaxs will be faraaxs no matter where they reside, they will stay looking at every xalimo that walks by, weliba they will all look at you at the same damn time like you dropped from the sky or something, kuwa wadanki joogo are just more prone to make weird noises that resemble animal mating calls

You are lucky to be there, I'd give anything to switch places with you I miss the cool enviroment of the motherland, the late night caways, the macawiis and sandals and most of all the mirqaan session :blessed:

No, caadi maha lol, but I appreciate your comforting. I know I am lucky to be here and I am proud to be working from the motherland. But I just wish progress sped up. The infrastructure is staying where it is because mediocrity is all we are good at.

As for the faaraxs, young, old and older...they need someone to slap the back of their heads and teach them not to do that. It makes life for us very uncomfortable.

lol @ mirqaan session. :wow:

Thug, Yes. :)

Jalaal, no. That's not a compliment, just like cat-calling should not be acknowledged nor accepted.

The staring is just an innate Somali thing. I remember wearing a Vince Carter jersey walking around and being stared at like no tomorrow in Hargeisa and Boorama. Even in the diaspora you get stared at by Somalis.
