Is This Water Halal.......???
And can it be used for farming?
As you all know, almost all people in Somalia rely on pit latrines. They are pretty troublesome because when they fill up, its trouble. A van to suck this waste up is cheap (10k) and easily to operate. There is also this new machine which is being piloted in Senegal which turns XAAR into BIYO. Clear, pathogen free water and no need to dig another loo. But is this water DAHIR? And is it halal to use this water to grow crops?

I know, I was thinking the same thing and wild dogs even piss in river... but people will be put off direct poo for water... even the area might be seen as nijaas and that means no hope of implementation at all. Maybe its OK for cattle? But then I'm scared the the Arabs will ask for a lower price on livestock.

WaterAid say that they dig wells in a matter of hours

You'll lose even more groundwater. We need renewable sources of water.

Yeah but drinking poo water should be considered after all options have been exhausted. After we've run out of groundwater, it stopped raining and after the sea has dried up no?

loool its disgusting but something has to be done with those latrines, people should not have to move house once the toilet fills up.
Desalination is still very expensive and counterproductive if you want to remove the salt in the groundwater. That's what I'm most concerned about, pushing the salt back down in the earth. Mogadishu's water is desalinated and its still salty. I was thinking more about using the water to grow crops and feed cattle, natures natural filters no?

You reminded me Thames Water was going to introduce this in London
It feels wrong but necessity and invention right? The water is treated anyway and the animals would have to pass health checks when you export so maybe it's a good solution to a persistent problem

Really? Where can I read about it?
The fecal matter is heated to 1000 degrees and the water is actually from steam, so its practically distilled water and it doesn't have a smell. You can add chlorine which is cheap and leaves the water once left to stand for a couple of minutes so I would definitely drink that.

Will anyone eat chicken that feeds on faeces? That is what most chickens eaten in Somalia feed on. Cattle in most western countries are fed chicken faeces. It is psychological, some stuff are accepted while others are not.

Cherine...its a mixture of water from the river, rainwater and groundwater where I live. Even if some of the water is from the loo, the process is so different to literally taking shit steam and drinking it.
Machievelli,
That's the same machine I'm asking about. Americans are concerned with 'grossness' which might be changeable, but the concept of nijaas in Islam is rigid...but how do you 'wash' water....maybe diluting it with seven times the amount of treated seawater would help.
