He nearly died trying to reach a more prosperous life on more than one occasion, he said. Twice he fell into the hands of ruthless smugglers who tortured him.
"They are butchers who trade in destroying human souls. They are not human beings. They are worse than anything that walks on this Earth," Nuur told Al Jazeera, recalling a lucky escape from his captors who tried to shoot him.
"My mum paid a $7,000 ransom. They held me in Libya for a month-and-half," Nuur recalled. "Every morning I prayed for death ... to end my suffering."
Many of his companions were not so lucky. Women were raped and left on the streets when they became pregnant.
Others were killed in cold blood in front of other migrants as a message.
"Some were shot dead by smugglers so they could prove they were serious and would kill anyone whose family did not pay up. Others were killed by militia men who thought they were mercenaries who fought in the Libya war for Gaddafi," Nuur said.
"I buried four with my own hands."

And there are many on here who would give their life for these dirty ayrabs.

This is supposed to be a thread about compassion and pity for our fellow malis who are suffering, and here you are inserting your propaganda. Your hate for arabs is immeasurable. Do u blame the arabs for your atheism? or for your childhood molestation?

Hyper, it's a combination of dowlad aan waxba tareyn iyo dad imaan la'. They would rather risk getting killed or raped than live a peaceful poor life.

They could start small business with $7000. Imagine if he added that amount to the rest of the money he spent to travel to Libya. iimaankaa ku yar.

1) Diaspora should be banned from the country unless they are on work permits/business. Foreign channels should be cut off. Domestic channels only showing.
2) Human traffickers should be caught and skinned alive. Jail and fine those that try to tahriib. Make them work in labour camps instead of sticking them in prison.
3) Massive countrywide awareness campaign to educate people of the dangers. Show them pics of mutilated and raped corpses if you have to. Scare the living shit out of them.
4) Qat should be taxed at increasing rates every year and slowly phased out over a period of 5-10 years. The money from taxation should be used to start nationwide building and basic infrastructure projects.

$7000 is not a lot of money, but I know people who live in Somalia and they annex a shop on their their house with a freezer, fridge and the sell ice and other products to the community while chilling at home. People make money from selling mobile phones, sim cards etc perfumes, making shop signs and so on. They make only enough to survive and keep their business going...food is also really cheap. The thing is...most people have kids and they really don't want their children to struggle because even a decent business is not enough to make up for the fact that your kid is not going to be a doctor, nurse, engineer and get out of poverty for good...so they risk their lives for their children. Once they come to the West they start the process of bringing them over. May Allah make anyone who went through that journey very successful here and in the afterlife and the same for their children.

Unfortunately, Tahriib is here to stay until real employment opportunities are presented. On the ground, in SLand at least, Tahriib is as normal as going to college is in suburban America.LiquidHYDROGEN wrote:

Diaspora are the lifeblood of Somalia at the moment. Also, neither international channels nor Facebook are needed to see fruits of the promised land. All locals need to do is look at their neighbors with relatives abroad and the remittances they provide.
Government officials, police officers, imams etc. etc. utilize these trafficking networks so #2 aint gonna happen.
The dangers are known, trust me.
