Eritrea Africa's Cuba....
History, culture, some world historic buildings to snoop around and they have stupendous natural beauty (which unlike ours wasn't destroyed by overgrazing camels, cows and charcoal smugglers)...but an anti Western dictator is in power and he reportedly arms Shabaab so as a Somali I'll postpone the trip for safety reasons. They could have been like Morocco by now judging by the work ethic, strong culture and the best food and coffee in Africa, I would visit in a heartbeat just to know what Eritreans culture is and take in those lush hills with the floating clouds.

Re: Eritrea Africa's Cuba....
Eritrea should be a prosperous and pleasant country, since it's located in a strategic location and it has a population that's socially cohesive.
But they have a Dictator who suppresses the rights of his citizens and doesn't allow economic activity. Hence why thousands of Eritreans die each year trying to flee their country. This is what Authoritarian Socialism does to a country. It literally destroys a population and ruins the livelihood of the Eritrean people. SMFH

Re: Eritrea Africa's Cuba....
If Eritrea had the right type of leader, they wouldn't be in this mess. But many people now say that Eritrea's not much better than Northern Somalia. It's a complete shithole, and it's a shame.

Re: Eritrea Africa's Cuba....
Eritrea is okay and like Mogadishu Asmara was built by the Italians and later expanded by Ethiopia. Unlike Wanlawein they preserved their cities and unlike Barre the Ethiopian regime did not shell nor bomb towns except for EPLF hideouts.
Massawa itself was first built by the Ottomans and later by the Italians.
All in all Eritrea is small nstion that has opportunities to succeed.
It's hills and valleys not as high as those of north Ethiopia especially the Ras Dashen, which is part of the Simien mountains in Gonder.
Overall what you see is Habesha people are more human and appreciative of their heritage than destructive Somalis.
Look Barre bombed whole towns to the ground and Habesha man with 300,000 strong army decided to leave his country intact rather than destroy it. Eritrean cities were safe guarded too. Thats the difference between Mengistu and Barre.

Re: Eritrea Africa's Cuba....
Asmara was built by the Italians like Mogadishu was. Many of it's roads and rail-lines were installed by the Italian colonists as well. Outside of Mogadishu, cities like Hargeisa, Burco, Garowe and Bosaso were built by Somalis without any help from anyone. Asmara today looks like how a xafaad in Mogadishu would look like today if the war didn't happen.

Eritreans are backwards as fuck. Despite that their country may seem more developed on the surface than Somalia, it really isn't. Their internet and media is heavily monitored and the government controls the economy. There's basically no free market in Eritrea.
Eritreans are also massively overrepresented in Europe as refugees. There are nearly as many Eritreans as Somalis in Northern Europe despite that they are 1/5th the population size of Somalis. That should tell you enough that Eritrea sucks.

I work for my local government and I see plenty of eri/xabashi refugees claiming dole and welfare. Their countries are basically two African North Koreas.Itrah wrote:Eritreans are backwards as fuck. Mengistu HaileMariam was Oromo and his mother belonged to another Cushitic group. He was not Habesha.

He was Konso. They are Omotic people who switched to an Oromo dialect but are unrelated to ethnic Oromos.Xildiiid wrote:Mengistu HaileMariam was Oromo and his mother belonged to another Cushitic group. He was not Habesha.

They carry E-M329 at high levels. That is an Omotic specific haplogroup. They aren't Cushitic. Also there is evidence of a language shift in their dialect. They are former Omotic speakers.Xildiiid wrote:His father was Oromo and his mother was Konso.
