Typical Faarax and Typical Xalimo

Post by EvolSyawla »

Hey guys, So these terms are relatively new to me from Snet and I still don't have a grasp of what the general idea is.

When someone says xalimo, I picture a masar, diric sheed, a girl who knows buranbuur, and the 'good daughter' type. And from what I have seen, faarax is a macawiis wearing skinny with no romantic inclinations, but a fierce protector of his family.

In roughly one sentence, can you please give me your general idea of each?

And try to remember the positives of your brothers and sisters, don't be negative. :)

I always thought that terms don't come with particular meaning. Farah or Halima has been a names we use in the internet world when we want to mention Somali man or woman respectively.

Agreed, but that also paints a picture in your mind of the average ___. So what comes to mind when you hear it?

When we first started using it back 2005 I think it had mental pictures connected to them but as time continued they become neutral .

Human brain is very amazing, for me to reply to you in this thread my brain gives me a picture of you while I have never seen you.

So m assuming the mental pics attached to farah and Halima will vary from farah to farah or Halima to Halima.

 Fair enough walaal. That's true.

I know I have an image of the typical westernized xalimo, vs the more traditional Idea. Which is more common though?

Do most people think of a baggy-pants gangiister faarax before they would see a cultured and respectful young man?

To me the terms Farax and Xalimo has a slightly negative tag attached to it, when I hear it I picture someone who's fresh off the boat (their clothing is irrelevant) it's more to do with the mentality.
Theres no typical Farax and Xalimo tbh it can be someone who still carries the mentality we believe describes people from back home or those who have recently landed in the west and have wildout and are just trying too hard to be western.

To answer your last question, are you referring to young Somali men in general or young Faraxs?
If it's the former, when I think of a Somali man the first thing that comes to my mind is a normal respectful guy dressed decently.. :|

I recently met an Ismahan. It's hard to say her name without thinking about that corny joke. :| I need a nickname for her.
