You must take the Maine Police Written and Physical Exam, here is their website: http://www.maine.gov/dps/mcja/

Technically, the only requirements are to do well on those tests + be a naturalized/native citizen + GED/High School Diploma.

But law enforcement is a competitive field, many people are trying to "GET ON" any force, as the lingo goes. You will have people with Associate or Bachelor Degrees in Criminal Justice and you will also have people with relevant Military experience (infantry, MP, etc.); and veteran status gets you bumped to the head of the list for any civil service positions.

I think, ideally, they are looking to find recruits from the youth of the community that they can move in the appropriate direction so the greater public won't cry affirmative action when he eventually "GETS ON." The white power in Maine is strong.

Personally, I thought about driving up and testing a while ago. But, do I really wanna live in Maine though?

Thanks Waryaa. I got a wayward nephew who is 'trying to find himself' whom I wanted to chuck into the Army but i feel the police force would be a better alternative.
