Current status of Somaliland

Post by TheCadaanGuy »

I'm aware there are some issues in Awdal and SSC regions. Can anyone on ground in these regions report what's happening, who actually controls these land and whether people are happy to be in Somaliland or not (%)?

Thanks

We should have a compromise.

A-Unity clans should come with a better power sharing deal between North & South, instead of Northerners getting 20% or less when they are 35% of the Population. They should get atleast 100 seats in the Parliament, and 1 of the 3 top post.

B-The Seccecionist clan, can come up with a better power sharing deal with Northerners where other clans of the North accept Somaliland independence. 50% of Parliament for other clans, 50% of Cabinet for other clans, and an Isaaq President, Harti Prime Minister and a Dir House Speaker. Something similar to Lebanon, Iraq or Bosnia.

We can come together and proceed with talks with the South to ethier accept plan A, or All Northerners will accept secession.

Which ever plan works for us we can except. instead of fighting or forcing each other to accept what they don't want.

Somali government doesn't want this, nor does Somaliland want to share with others. so we are stuck.

your questions are not logic
if there is issues 4 out of 5 somaliland provinces somaliland could not exist over 24 years. at the other hand Somaliland became 13th happiest country in africa this year. more happier than kenya and Ethiopia. why the people are happy if they are under pressure ?

I was kinda of asking what's exactly happening in Somaliland rather than political opinions.

The reason why I am asking because Somali news aren't reliable with their reporting.

Does anyone know if this map from Wikipedia for SL region is correct:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... tricts.png

Also, why does the tribe dhulbahante dislike SL so intensely? I mean they're going to benefit from stability and some new developments in Laas Canood shows that SL is willing to invest in non-isaaq areas.

Somaliland controls all of Somaliland except few isolated pockets. The main reason of dhulbahante revolt is due to mistrust. They see Somaliland as Isaaq enterprise designed to advance only isaaq interests.

Which is very wrong perception in reality.

CaddanGuy,

This is another caddan guy.

The boys can't answer you because the question is politically loaded and because the borders change with each military patrol. Compare your map with the one from the opposition : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khatumo_State Now check out the Awdal State website: http://www.awdalstate.com/

You hear all kinds of stuff, but this was published 5-21 and seems to be as indicative of the present mood as anything:

present mood of the rabidly anti-somaliland camp.
good one grant, i never understood your bias.
common Awdalland? this only exist among some diaspora in ottowa canada and jijiga ethiopia
it doesnot exist on the ground it does not even exist out side somaliland it is fictional.
at least khatumo used to be an organization.
note the use of "used to be"
Khatumo now consists of the residents of buhdole sulking away, and the pro puntland dhulos inviting puntland offcials to come to their border villages.

my advice to the thread opener is to examine all the information and make up your own mind.
