It's halal to keep dogs but not inside one's home, they are not domestic animals, they are predatory.
Re: A Muslim woman and her dog
Hoy, hoy - haye, hadda ma ey baynu qurbaha ku dhaqanaa, especially, inside our homes? Tii la keenaaba tan kale ka daran.
I think the woman in that video is onto something else. If she needs to guard her house, why didn't she order a security system? It is all about people who are backed by forces that we have no clue and who want to change Islam from within!
First, it was Hijab. Now it is dogs. What is the next?

Re: A Muslim woman and her dog
Rabies is what made the early Muslims dislike dogs inside the house, but most dogs nowadays don't have that and are vaccinated.

A security alarm system would not go to walks with her to the woods. They live in a pretty isolated area, so a dog i guess gives her security. I think you should get xaajiyadaada a dog as well so she's safe when she's out.
Regarding why it lives indoors? Well i guess she wants to shield it from the harsh winters. Still anigu ey guriga lugu haystoo ma aaminsani because to me animals should live outside in their natural environment.
One of the other reasons she got a dog is for her sick child she mentions it here:

Yes hyper dogs are like big babies! Can you imagine having a baby for 15 or so years?Hyperactive wrote:i would get german shepherd but dogs are not indepandant animals.
You have to pick up their xaar which can at times be shuban like meaning unpickable. Big dogs also mean big poop. Definitely worst thing about having a dog.

We should keep dogs as guards, but the problem is, in the diaspora, you have to keep them indoors. Basically, the dog has to be a member in your family, just like a kid. This is where I draw the line. Dogs are indeed great animals and companions of human beings; however, as descendants of the wolf family, they would not keep their mouth shut, and they would urinate many places in your homes. As Muslims, that is a threat to our salats. There is a health risk that originates from the saliva in dogs' mouth, and therefore, the solution is to keep them away from kids where they can be exposed to it.
Anyhow, there is no question that dogs are good animals, however, lately, there were campaigns against Muslims mistreating animals because, according to Islamophopes, it was due to Islam - which we all know that charge is false. My concern of this new push is coming from that perspective. My take is, Muslims who want dogs in their homers should reach out to Islamic scholars and get the consensus among the ulema.

Re: A Muslim woman and her dog
The aversion against dogs in Islamic culture is entirely based on pre-Islamic Arab superstitious beliefs. In fact, the issue of dogs is one instance where hadith contradicts the Quran, where dogs are mentioned favorably.
Whether they're najas or not, who cares? Your own shit is najas, I don't see any dilemma when you use the bathroom.
If you want a dog, get a dog. But Muslims will judge you harshly, if that's something you care about.

Definitely cultural. Even in nonMuslim African & Asian countries this same aversion exists to this day.
Re: A Muslim woman and her dog
We follow the consensus of Hanafi, Shafi'i, and Hanbali Sunni Islamic scholars. Ja'afari and Zaidi Islamic scholars (main Shia Muslim sects) also agree with them on this topic. Their consensus is don't keep dogs in the houses where you sleep and eat.SaciidAyanleh wrote:The aversion against dogs in Islamic culture is entirely based on pre-Islamic Arab superstitious beliefs. If you want to follow your desires, it is up to you; however, that is the consensus from Islamic scholars. You want to chase Maliki view because you want to have a dog, it is up to you. However, we want to follow the consensus from mainstream Islamic scholars.
The problem with the Somalis is every Harry and Tom want to interpret the deen to his or her liking!

I completely forgot about that. I'm glad you're challenging people to examine the origins of their beliefs.Cherine wrote:Definitely cultural. Even in nonMuslim African & Asian countries this same aversion exists to this day.
Maliki isn't mainstream Islam?gegiroor wrote: However, we want to follow the consensus from mainstream Islamic scholars.

Re: A Muslim woman and her dog
The keyword here is majority of Islamic scholars. When you combined all of the other school of thoughts, Maliki becomes a minority. But hey, do you want to have a dog in your house and in your bedroom, there is no one stopping you!SaciidAyanleh wrote:I completely forgot about that.
