East Africa has a population of ~300 million covering about 6 million km .

Somalis as an ethnic group form 5% of East Africa but hold 15% of the land mass.

Not one ethnic group comes up as near as that.

That doesn't add up.

That's because we were fierce nomad warriors , always looking for Oromos to kill , camels to steal and water wells , we were originally confined to northern Somalia but we expanded west and south in search for grazing land and water , we liberated this land from Oromos mostly and ever since we've been fighting ourselves over it and that caused more Somali clans to move more westward into Ethiopia and south to Kenya.

About expansion, you're kidding right? Ever since Barre regime was demolished, Kenyans and Ethiopians have started moving into and living in Somali cities/towns.

Most of the Somali peninsula is arid and can't support large populations... So don't get too boastful.

Imagine Somalis, with a powerful economy, Industry, Construction, Agriculture, Fishing, Mining, Oil & Gas, Banking, Services, Tourism, Telecomunication, Hospitality, Marketing, Infrastructure, with Solar Energy & suffienct water for our needs, Security and a powerful Military, Town planing and Highways, Housing, Health & Education for our people, Transportation, Buses, Trains, Metro, international standard airlines & Airports, Ferries, Marinas and Ports. We would be the Highest GDP in Africa and the Stongest Economically, Militarly & Diplomatically. Only if we are smarter.

I was like you few years ago. After involving myself in some other African communities, I realise that we are nothing special. They have the same ambitions as we do. They have the same dreams as we do. They also have the same wishes as we do. Yet, they do not succeed even when they are in better position than we are.

Nowadays, I just hope that I will be able to make hijrah to Somalia and live there permanently just as our forefathers did within our lifetime.

Lets just hope they find the OIL & GAS, so we can atleast live like the Gulf Arabs. lool

Ugandan population 1960 - 6.8million
kenyan population 1960 - 8.1million
S.Republic population 1960 - 2.8million (Revised since 2009 when i last checked when it was 6.6milion)

Ugandan population 2013 - 37.58million
kenyan population 2013 - 44.35million
S.Republic population 2013 - 10.5million

It is possible the revised somali population is base on interpolation from more recent data. Cia data held in 1970 estimated somali population at 7.6million where as the presented data at present has been set to 3.45million for 1970.

It must be very difficult to accept reality and hence easier to normalize trends inline with neighbors.

Average family size in S.republic 2014 - 6

Potential 22million Somalis unaccounted for, there must be a blackhole on the horn? Somaliens living on other planets perhaps?

Yes , i know and we still beat 'em , the thing is Northern Somalia is very arid , so it would make sense for us to move more westward into Ethiopias grasslands then say the Oromos already occupying those areas to come to Northern Somalia where there isnt very much water and green. Some of the Oromos we pushed back and some we assimilated , note that Somalis and Oromos use to be one people roughly 3000 yrs ago before we split , we both lived in Ethiopia but then the ancestors of the Somalis settled in North Somalia when it wasnt as dry as it is today.

You're talking siad barre which was just a couple decades ago , this Somali expansion was centuries ago , get with the program sxb

We would have been the 27th biggest country in the world.
