Healthy filling suhoor ideas
I've been eating barley for suhoor since Ramadan began, it leaves me sluggish and sleepy during the day.
Do you guys eat healthy suhoor? Can you share? No baasto, suugo, bariis, soor please and thank you.
I want a healthy, filling suhoor that can give me energy through out the day!

Re: Healthy filling suhoor ideas
I don't generally like heavy foods during suhoor, so I stick with a large salad (4 cups of vegetables) with (chicken, salmon or beef). I drink plenty of water beforehand. I wouldn't consider this very filling for most, but it doesn't prevent me from sleeping and I don't normally feel hungry during the day. Perhaps I've just adapted to these conditions.Idman702 wrote:I've been eating barley for suhoor since Ramadan began, it leaves me sluggish and sleepy during the day.

I've lost my appetite this ramadan. I used to eat a lot but now I can barely finish 8 sambas for afur, small dinner and light suxuur.

Julz, what about fruit? So many fruit are in season right now, have you tried that? So filled with sugars and water (watermelon, cantelope, mango etc)

I know. Surprisingly it keeps you satiated for a long time. - Its nutrient dense, which helps.EvolSyawla wrote:I ate a salad as well as water @ Soph, and the drowsyness doesn't hit me till asr. Then it hits me haaard

You know whats become my latest obsession smoothies - not any kind. Its a banana, date and almond smoothie with cinnamon. It pretty much consists of 1 medium-sized frozen banana, 1 table spoon of almond butter, 1 cup of almond milk and 1 date, with a hint of cinnamon.

Usually wholemeal foods that are low-GI are good but personally speaking I go for low carb foods. Yes I do starve but I feel so much better not putting so much carb into my body. I exercise better. I sleep better. I run faster. It's unbelievable how much carbs are dangerous to the body.
The key is always moderation. Sorghum (garow) is good but only no more than 600g per day (Sahuur).
I eat veggies and I don't really eat fruits. There was time my body used to crave for sugars but I taught my body to crave for greens instead. One thing I miss is caano geel.
I put no sugars in my body either. I can't remember the last time I had soft drink. Maybe 12 years ago.
My favorite smoothie is carrot (5 carrots) and apples (2 apples). I add bit of cinnamon (blender) and fresh ginger (blender). I haven't had it for months now.
I highly recommend it. I do starve at times but I focus on the rewards (health and fitness). You need mental strength and hard headed...I never do whatever everyone does. If all my friends get khat or shisha out, I will chill with them but never try it. I do things according to me. I respect what others do for them but I'm not easy influence. This forum is no different (hence everyone giving me the anti-Habeshi 2 cent).

Re: Healthy filling suhoor ideas
No suhooor on my end. I just eat dates, fruits, vegetables at Iftar, and dinner. That is it for me. No suhoor for me. If I do get up, I won't go back to sleep, so I don't bother it. My body is gradually getting used to it.
Re: Healthy filling suhoor ideas

Barley is a whole food it is very filling, make sure you get the hulled variety. It has many health benefits read about it here http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tnam ... e&dbid=127
I make porridge with rye flakes for suhuur. I make it with goats milk, put a few raisins to sweeten it, cinnamon, ground almonds & organic grassfed butter. Not a day goes by without me wondering why i'm not feeling hungry AT ALL. Alhamdullilah.

Re: Healthy filling suhoor ideas
Normally for iftar I would eat a couple of meat samosas 1 malawax. My delicious smoothies comprising of fruit and veg mix. Which is quickly blended in my new nutribullet. I usually go for strawberries banana blueberries kale mango etc. Then I would have dinner anything the missus makes last night it was curry. I don't have suxuur as I am so full from iftar I feel like exploding if i eat anything else. Maybe a few more dates and milk for suxuur if there's space left in my stomach but usually there isn't. Alhamdulila I don't feel hungry during the day. If I wasn't too full for suhuur I would have oats and fresh fruit.
