All this talk about Somalis being the 'lowest strata' of society is bogus. The newest Somalis are not looked at with contempt or pity, which is the case for the OLDEST population here, Natives. Well, the contempt that stems from not desiring to assimilate on anyone but their own terms, is really no concern to me. When I read about White people 'outraged' because Somali employees demanding special prayer rooms, etc...it's like a reminder to you guys: We may be here another 100 years but you will never enslave us

African Americans hate us because they think we are beholden to them, that we have to kiss their ass to be acceptable. We are a proud people who never kissed anyone’s ass, and we are not going to start now. They hate us just like they hate all refugees who settle in their neighborhoods. They have harassed us, beat our youth and killed some of us, and expect we should love them. They hate us, because in the short time we have been here we have opened businesses and many of us got educated. They will love us, when we all lose our culture, history and religion.

I became familiar with the case a few months ago when the same somali who came to my island forum brought it to my attention. It was old then too.

The violence in that school was started by gangs, and it had no ethnic make-up at the beginning. It turned out later on to have an ethnic make-up. My understanding in Minneapolis, Somali and African American issues are very minimal. Keep in mind that the Somali community tallied behind the first Muslim who is elected to US Congress. He is African American.
