JEDDAH: P.K. ABDUL GHAFOUR
Published — Thursday 9 October 2014
A group of young Saudi history enthusiasts has retraced the path of the People of the Elephant who tried to destroy the Holy Kaaba centuries ago.
The Holy Qur’an, in a short chapter, briefly refers to the story of the army of elephants led by Abraha Al-Ashram, who was a governor of Yemen. God destroyed Abraha and his army that included 13 elephants, by sending flocks of birds that dropped small stones on them.
“There never fell a stone on a soldier except it dissolved his flesh and burst it into pieces … Abraha Al-Ashram fled while his flesh was bursting into pieces and died on the way back to Yemen,” said the 14th century scholar Ibn Kathir, an authentic Qur’an commentator.
During their tiring journey across mountains and rough terrain, the young Saudi men took photographs of important landmarks, beginning from north of Najran, to the east of Asir, and then east of Baha.
Some of the most important historical sites along the way included inscriptions of elephants on rocks in the Al-Qahr Mountain, southeast of Tathlith; an old well in Hafaer, east of Asir; and a paved road near Kara in Aqeeq principality in the Baha region.
Mohammed Al-Amry, head of the geology department at King Saud University, said he had seen the path of Abraha and his army in Tathlith and Baha. “The army had passed the Arabian shield region comprising rocks and there were writings in the Humairiya language on some mountains,” he said.
According to historical Islamic sources, Abraha, who was a Christian, had thought of building a church similar to the Kaaba in Sanaa. He wanted the Arabs to perform the pilgrimage in Sanaa instead of Makkah, with the intention of diverting trade and benefits to Yemen. He presented the idea to the then king of Ethiopia who agreed to it.
Abraha built the church but the Arabs refused to come for pilgrimage in Sanaa. This infuriated him, prompting him to form an army to invade Makkah and demolish the Kaaba. He defeated all Arab armies on the way until he reached Makkah where he was attacked by the flocks of birds sent by the Almighty.

In the Tafsir (interpretation) of the Ayah "Until the Gog and Magog are let through (their barrier)'" (al-Anbiya 21:96), it is reported by Ka'b Al-Ahbar that Zul-Suwayqatayn will first emerge at the time of Jesus, son of Mary. Jesus will lead a army of seven and eight hundred Muslim soldiers and march to fight Zul-Suwayqatayn. While they are marching towards Zul-Suwayqatayn, Allah will send a breeze from the direction of Yemen, which will take the soul of every faithful believer. Only the worst of people will be left, and they will begin to copulate like animals. Ka'b said: "At that time, the Hour (of Resurrection) will be very close."
Dul- Suwayqatayn is the Abyssinian gaal that will destroy the Ka'ba I don't know how you haven't heard of him.

I thought the man who tried to destroy the ka ba was Abyssinian? and his descendant will destroy when all the Muslims are gone?
Re: Saudis Retrace Route of Abraha’s Army that Came to Destroy Kaaba
There is no hadeeth nor Quran Surah that supports the Arab conspiracy theories about "an Ethiopian" destroying Ka'hba. First and foremost, the early Arabs used "Habesha" and anyone with dark tone was a Habesha including some southern Arabs.
In those days "Ethiopia" was used by the Greeks for the entire African continent. Abbysinia and Habesha are not the same either. For example the Yejju and the Raya sub-groups of the Oromo were Abbysinians but not Habesha.
The Habesha are originally southern Arabs. The Geez itself was the earliest Arabic. The Arabs later abandon it for the Persian scripture that today you identify as "Arabic". These southern Arabs later mixed with the Cushitic and Nilotic groups.
Speaking of Abraha actually he was deceitful governor of Saba who betrayed the Emperor of Axum Kaleb/Caleb.
Emperor Kaleb was a righteous leader just like Negashi but Abraha was a warlord. When the Emperor told him to stop whatever he was doing to the Arabs he refused. The Emperor sent another general to restore law and order in Saba (Yemen and southern KSA), but Abraha tricked the general.
Anyways he killed him and became very repressive leader. He was either a Tigrai or Bahir-Tigringya/Kebessa (most likely them).
The Empire was put to an end by the Cushitic Agews and later by the Abbaysid Caliphate who liberated southern Arabia and cut Axum from vital trade routes including Alexandria (Egypt), Armenia and Greece. By the time, the "Habesha" reclaimed the throne from the indigenous Agews, it has been almost a 400 years. One can imagine how much races and ancestries change in that kind of period.
Ethiopians are going to destroy the kahba is Arab conspiracy theory. Only naive ones believe everything.

Do people here read the recent history of the Ka'ba when it was seized by the first Alqaeda group led by two Saudis, Juhayman al-Oteibi and Mohammed Abdullah al-Qahtani, who both claimed to be the mahdi at the final day of haj of 1979 and held for 2 weeks. Both men used the modern Jihadi rhetoric that Muslim nations and in particular Saudi Arabia betrayed Islamic principles and sold out to western countries.

I support Saudi's & Arabs in general, but them researching anything?
For example they say " they saw Inscriptions of elephants on rocks on the mountains" did they carbon date it? how do they know if this is merly from 1500 yrs ago? cause ancient humans 35,000 to 40,000 yrs + ago, were painting walls with animals and natural scenes. Is the painting they saw of a time when Arabia and the desert were greener and had more wildlife?
Arabs would just conclude it's from Abrah's Elephants
atleast they are better than us, we would conclude the Devil made them
When I was driving in Somalia, I was thinking of all the Mountains and Caves we were passing by and the hills & mountains & Valleys beyond them, I just wanted to know who lived their before us, are their monuments, ruins, cities, temples, painting & inscriptions & wrting. anything to tell us of the anceint people who walked our land before us. I just wanted to explore & people would tell me of Ancient wells that can't be opened because of a sytem of locks, Caves and ruins. From what we know when Europeans first explored our land in the 1840s they wrote of an ancient people the Gallas we drove few generations ago from this land & of their ruins and tombs.

Here are some of the hadiths referencing the destruction of the Ka'ba by an Abyssinian. It is not a conspiracy theory since the hadiths are in Sahih Muslim. Keep in mid at the time of its destruction, there will be no Muslims around at that time.
Additionally, with respect to who killed Abraha, he was not killed by Emperor Kaleb as you claimed here. He died on the way back to Yemen while his flesh was burning after his army to destroy the Ka'ab was in turn destroyed thru a divine will.AbduAllah ibn Amr said I heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم say: " Zul-Suwayqatayn from Al-Habasha ( Abyssinia or Ethiopia) will destroy the Ka'ba and steal its treasure and Kiswah (cover). It is as if I could see him now: he is bald-headed and has a distortion in his wrists. He will strike the Ka'ba with his spade and pick-axe." (Musnad Ahmad)
Here is another hadith:
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: It would be an Abyssinian having two small shanks who would destroy the House ol Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.
Sahih Muslim - The Book Pertaining to the Turmoil and Portents of the Last Hour (Kitab Al-Fitan wa Ashrat As-Sa`ah)
Book 041, Number 6953

Yes, Sienna, but we (Muslims) will not be around at that time. It is very close to the time that Angel Israafeel is commanded to blow the Trumpet and the End of the universe will take place.SiennaEarth wrote:Subhana'Allah and can you imagine the ka'bs will be destroyed soon as a sign of the end of times.

It is the geological department of King Saud University who did the survey. Since Saudi universities are well-funded, their universities have many scholars from Egypt, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, and from other places. I wouldn't discount them so easily.PrinceNugaalHawd wrote:I support Saudi's & Arabs in general, but them researching anything? For example they say " they saw Inscriptions of elephants on rocks on the mountains" did they carbon date it? how do they know if this is merly from 1500 yrs ago? cause ancient humans 35,000 to 40,000 yrs + ago, were painting walls with animals and natural scenes. Gegiroor,
I will leave the Arab conspiracy theories aside for now since neither Abbysinia nor Ethiopia are in any Arab historical documents. Habesha is not necessarily Ethiopia nor Abbysinia. An Israeli Falasha could be Habesha thus these army could come from any nation not neccesarily Ethiopia.
I never said Emperor Kaleb killed Abraha. Read again. Kaleb sent a general to Saba to restore order. The Emperor never went himself during Abraha rebellion. Abraha refused orders from Kaleb.
After discovering that new general was on his way with huge army, Abraha proposed an idea. He told the general instead of destroying our armies and empire after realising the size of the army sent by Kaleb, why don't we battle it out one on one, no armies. The general believed him thinking it would be fair fight and decided to meet him where the two planned to met. By then Abraha has hid soldiers and set booby trap. He killed the general.
Kaleb was fair ruler even the Arab traders lived great life under him. Much of Ethiopia's civilization was greatly contributed by these southern Arabs and priests from Alexanderia and Syria.

I've heard about the hadith back in school.
In Arabic you have habasha (Abyssinia) & Ethiopia
So I think it is true that the man who wold destroy the kacba is going to be from Ethiopia.
