Maashallah, Turkey proved from time to time a true friend of Somalis. They are building good infrastructure for the people and not handing $$$ to corrupt politicians to embezzle it. Jazaaakuhumulaahu Kheeyrun.

Actually they give money to a lot of shady politicians. It is so tempting to expose a lot mofos, but it ain't right. They will get what is coming to them in time. Allah is the best judge.

Mogadishu ports need an investment of $120 million which current government can't raise so it was only logical to get a strategic partner.
Albayrak will modernize the port, operate and share its income with Somali state on 50 50 basis.
What many of you don't know is that albayrak was hesitating to take this project because it doesn't make commercial sense in the short compare to amount of capital it needs in the beginning but atlast they came up a better plan to make it viable.
So if we put aside our tribal/regional xaasidnimo and jealousy this project is a major Asset.
A Somali Cabinet spokesman has confirmed that Turkish firm Al Bayrak will manage Mogadishu's port in a two-decade contract.
Mr Ridwan Haji Abdiweli on Sunday said that the council of ministers had endorsed an agreement reached by the Somali government and the Turkish company last week.
"The Ministry of Public Works and Marine Transport signed an agreement with Al Bayrak on the 24th of October, the Cabinet spokesman said."
"The (Turkish) company is to manage the harbour for a period of 20 years."
The Somali government expects that the services rendered by Al Bayrak will significantly boost its revenues as it recovers from years of civil war that devastated the economy.
"Apart from taxes collected by the customs and excise department, Al Bayrak is likely to boost the monthly income currently ranging between $200,000 and $300,000 to $6.5m," a government statement said.
The firm will rehabilitate, refurbish and modernise the port, the statement added.
Al Bayrak becomes the latest Turkish firm to land a major infrastructure contract in the Horn of Africa country.
In September, Favori LLC took over the management and logistics of Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport.
Favori signed an agreement with the Somali ministry of Communication, Post and Transport and started operations on September 15.
Turkey is heavily involved in the rebuilding effort in the country.
Turkish Airlines is the only international airline that lands at Mogadishu’s airport.
Favori LLC and Al Bayrak’s contracts are expected to open the way for more investment and competition in the fully liberalised Somali economy.
Since when the port was reopened in 2006, the treasury was not receiving a penny from it, corruption was like worse then Nigeria.SOMALIA: Turkish company transfers $1.582,000 to Somali Government as port revenue of a month (Photos)

Mog-portMogadishu (RBC) Tukish Albayrak Group, which manages the port of Mogadishu issued on Tuesday a statement about the achievements, has been accomplished in the past month.
Director General of the Al-Bayrak Group in Mogadishu, Mustafa Levent Adali said in the report that the Mogadishu seaport was making significant progress during the last month.
Mustafa Levent Adali added that the Albayrak Group have transferred $1.582,000 million dollars to the federal government of Somalia, which he said is a huge progress was made during in one month.
The Al-Bayrak Group‘s report noted that the economic development of the Mogadishu port came without increasing the cost of the merchandise, but also reduced more than 11%.
What is more the port was making life expensive for the common man in the street, while it needed 1,000 porters, the port had 7 thousand porters in its book whom 80% of them were ghost workers! Who will be pay the cost? The consumer!.
So it was very important to bring a private company to run it.
