I came accross this photo on one of the facebook profiles ,with the following description :

and actually its not the first time i read that the first president of somaliland after indepedence from Britain was sheekh omar askar..!!. tried to google his name and verify if somaliland after indepedence had the president and prime minister type of governance systems,but couldn't find any.....so i would appreciate if anyone can shed a light on this confusing information .

You can't really find anything on this. They had a council that was made several months in advance to prepare for unification with Italian Somaliland. Other than electing Egal as the brief Prime Minister, they didn't have much as a fullfledge state since it was decided that it was going to merge with Italian Somaliland years ago.

I don't know Sheikh Omar but Meygaags were close family friend. Ibrahim Meygaag Samater bought our family truck from Japan back in the days. He used to visit our home in Dire during SNM days. AUN. That truck is still in the family hand (Daryeel construction uses it now days).
