Why is the government investing in people who don't support SL?

Post by Methylamine »

So I read on a Facebook post that Laascanood's airport is being built by Somalia. Upon further research I found out that was of course a lie, and that it was the Somaliland government who behind this project.

As I read through the comments of that FB post, all I saw were Dhulos insisting that they have nothing to do with Somaliland and that the people of Laascanood do not support Somaliland whatsoever. Ok fine these people do not want anything to do with us, yet the government insists on investing its limited resources on these people. Why does Laascanood, a city which apparently doesn't support Somaliland, need an airport while other cities who fully support SL such as Burco (which is much bigger than Laascanood), Ceerigaabo, and even Borama do not have functioning ones? Why is the government rewarding people who show hostility to Somaliland at the expense of those who don't hesitate to show their support for the country?

Most Dhulus of this generation are clueless and angry all the time.
They know nothing but Wikipedia and the tales of their cuqdad ridden parents.

Thankfully, the opinions of those naive diaspora won't change the reality on the ground.
However, SL media is also responsible for this. PL that has far less resources and budget than SL,
has many newspapers that is utilized to push their agenda on the public.

SL has nothing but SLpress & SLsun, which it's more or less, a personnel blog.
Hiiraan Online is s southern newspaper, so .....

To my understanding, I believe that this current government is trying to appease the Dhulbahante clan by investing in infrastructure and other areas; this will enable them to defeat 'Khaatumo' by portraying them as rebels without a cause. This method in theory sounds brilliant however when one contemplates on it, surely they will realise this policy will ensue in other clans copying the Dhulbahante  One good example I can recall right now, is Suldaan Wabar. I'm sure if he was offered a ministerial position and other incentives he wouldn't have ran off into the mountains to declare a war of independence for 'Awdal Land' :)

Considering all these factors, corruption will continue to flourish in our country. Every time, a 'madax dhaqameed' wants easy cash, they go on air to criticise the government. A few days later, you'll see them praising the president on the TV..I'm going to leave it to you to connect the dots :snoop:

In a nutshell, this strategy is short-sighted, delusional and limited at best.

Governance 101: People hate you because you don't include them. Include them, they will start to trust you after a while.

This isn't strategy or anything, this is common sense. Khatumo, SSC whatever all started this trouble because they didn't like being governed by a clan that isn't them. They will realise that not everyone is out to destroy them.

Bro I don't care about these dogs. Do you know lascaanod since 2007 has had triple the schools, hospitals and city grew by at least 40%. All of this is of course being financed by Reer hargeysa and berbera tax. Feeding literally people who hate you. It makes my blood boil because dumb Idoor is building jebarti towns while they teach their kids to hate us. The dhulo lands are a burden, the place will never raise enough tax for themselves and they need subsidizing.

It is clear jebarti want Somaliweyn because it means more hand outs and subsidizing from other non darod regions

In theory this philosophy of governance is solid. However the way I see it, you give Dhulbahante an inch and they'll take a mile. They know Somaliland will do anything to get them on board and as such, will continue to milk the government for aid and investment while maintaining the same stance as 2007. And as GrumpyGeeljire mentioned, it gives other clans the idea that contempt and resistance to the establishment will be rewarded.

If Dhulbahante and other clans want aid from the government in terms of development, they should at the very least be tolerant to the existence of Somaliland. Awarding major projects to people who constantly show hostility to the government, while ignoring the friendly clans will only breed resentment from other clans; especially those who sacrificed everything to make Somaliland what it is today.

I see the point. I do not mean to give the clans who hate you more than those who support you. Maybe give 90% of the budget to clans supporting you and 10% to the clans who dislike you.

I was thinking of projects where those clans who hate SL would have to rely on SL. E.g. Water pipe to the west from Laas canood.

Schools, Hosptials, etc need constant funding. If they decide to screw SL, they would lose their funding and realise that they shouldn't have bitten the hand that is feeding them.

Exactly, give priority to loyal citizens over dissidents. Unfortunately, the government's appeasement policy means hostile towns like Laascanood gets an airport; while larger towns that are much more supportive of Somaliland like Burco and Ceerigaabo are left behind. Making towns like Laascanood more reliant on SL might be a good idea, but thanks to qabyaalad I doubt it will change their stance on Somaliland.

I support the development but it must target the right people. Let's say Garad is pro-SL while theNomad kid is not. Then I will invest in Garad and ensure he is more powerful than theNomad within their sphere and that's exactly what SL gov is doing.

We are arming Las Anod unlike those from Buhodle. In due time Las Anod will become a bigger and more influential center for all Dhulos compared to Buhoodle or say Taleex. This division in class, politics and resources will always ensure they are divided.

That's number one politics...you always reward your friend or the one you control while the other is left in the cold. In due time they will resent each others and the other will accuse of being sold out or benefitted yet not shared the fruits.

That is the target here and its good policy.

We should build Las Anod but at the same time ensure we completely surround them thus develop Ainaba, Erigabo and that big road. We should isolate Buhodle and the likes so the gap can increase. If reer Las Anod misbehave, we just shine the light on their rivals---the development will be key to long term division, resentment and the have and the not class.

Compare Hong Kong to mainland China under the British policy.

Dhulos are nothing more than ungrateful backstabbing parasites, they should be deported to Puntland to join their starving relatives.

SL should invest in their 3 main cities rather than darood lands, burco and berbera needs water and hargeisa needs clean water.

politics does not work like that.

Case study: Ethiopia vs Ogaden

We all know xabashis have no enough toilets let alone water, but they crossed all the way to qoraxay and you believe the poorest people on earth and the biggest Somali enemies (the xabasjis) are doing good for you today. lool that did not just happen over night, they did a lot of efforts to make you shake your ass for them. first they excluded all senior ogadens from politics then they introduced a group of xabashi trained/brainwashed youth like hawdian iley and you who does not know or care about who killed his grandfather. the xabashis are practically using ye guys against other Ogaden Nationalists.

if ye guys are shaking your ass for xabashis just because he gave you dhaanto stage Sure the iidoors can chill with the dhuloos who we share race, religion, blood, culture and habit. Somaliland is appeasing any dhuloos group or clan against other Anti- Somaliland dhuloos. This is "Do no harm " politics the dhuloos will never be able to confront Against Somaliland simply because they will never be united against Somaliland.
