Paying Meher right Upfront at the nikaax place

Guys,

Our culture has a weird habit of not paying Meher during marriage. Most of the guys pay the meher as a send off when they are divorcing the girl. I am guilty of this because I paid the meher when I was getting divorced. Someone told me, if you pay the meher upfront , the girl will think you are divorcing her and might even refuse the nikaax. Why is it a taboo not to pay the meher during nikaax like any other society? I have seen moroccan nikaax and it was paid upfront. I am sure other muslims do too.

Back in the bari samaadkii when a soomaal was a Soomaal, somalis used to pay it upfront with a 100 halaad, I'm told.

In the old days in Somalia, the Meher was paid upfront because people used to frown on divorces, while lately, it is paid when the couples divorce as a security for former husbands to avoid paying child support.
