Somaliland is using traffic sensors to protect its road tax revenues.
Somaliland's minister of finance marwo Zamzam Abdi Adam announced today that her department is going to install traffic sensors in many junctions. This policy came after some Somaliland drivers developed some tricks to not pay any tax road.

yeah Zamzam is under pressure Since the war of Yemen has started. She is more focused to collect inland tax. e.g road tax, Value added tax etc. she is worried that our national budget may decrease if the government does not take inland tax more seriously. berbera port revenues is bit unreliable at the moment.

I don't disagree. yes we WANT ARoad signs. but we NEED this. sensors are more easier to implement and more essential than road signs and traffic lights. The device will read the tax disc sticker displayed on the windscreen of your vehicle. finance department can detect every thing from their office. no need to deploy too much traffic police. This will increase road tax revenues and it will decrease law enforcement expenditure.

So instead of using the road tax revenues they receive to invest in things like ROADS, they spend it on technology to ensure that people aren't dodging their taxes. In other words, maximizing the profits that go into their pockets.
Why am I not surprised

xirsi gaab is doing his job. he completed resurfacing the road from xamaas to sheikh. he completed the road from erigabo to ceel afweyn and he has many more plans. I think yhe local governments are doing better too. even periphery cities like LA and erigabo are doing some road projects. xirsi gaab will be tgere too tomorrow.Methylamine wrote:So instead of using the road tax revenues they receive to invest in things like ROADS, they spend it on technology to ensure that people aren't dodging their taxes.
