Will Somalis move away from Qabyaalad?
I'm talking about those under the age of 30. Many of us view tribalism as nothing more than as a technique to be used in Fadhikudir debates. Nevertheless, I believe Somalis of my generation will gradually move away from this destructive practice. Qabiil will only be used for identity. What do you guys think?
Re: Will Somalis move away from Qabyaalad?
To abandon Qabyaalad and Qabiil is to abandon Somali.
Qabiil defines what it means to be Somalinimo.
It could happen in couple of generation, but not anytime soon.

Infact, its probably gonna get worse with the next generation, because since they weren't born in Somalia, their only connection would be through Qabiil.
They would hold on to their parents Qabiil to fit in and would probably be more Qabiileste than the previous generation.

I'm not talking about tribal-identity, that can never be abandoned. My question was will somalis move away from tribalism.GAMES wrote:To abandon Qabyaalad and Qabiil is to abandon Somali.

Re: Will Somalis move away from Qabyaalad?
No. but it can be used for better ways not just fadhi kuririr or killing other people. in somaliland the government inrtroduced 'Crowdsourcing' schemes to use qabyalad as a tool of development. every qabil is building roads. hospitals, schools bridges, fishing ports etc. even the smalles isaaq clan, arab are building 64 km multimillion road project. every 10 km they contribute the government will pay 5 or more !. if other somali sates adopt the same policy qabylad will be a somali success story. Somali business elites already use qabiil code to expand their business empires the hawaala system is good exmaple. its completely based on trust there is no formal insurance.

Exactly. Qabiil can be used for good and for evil. It's just a matter of who's in power. The Arab countries all have qabiil as well, but they don't have anywhere near the amount of problems we have.theyuusuf143 wrote:No. but it can be used for better ways not just fadhi kuririr or killing other people. in somaliland the government inrtroduced 'Crowdsourcing' schemes to use qabyalad as a tool of development. every qabil is building roads. hospitals, schools bridges, fishing ports etc. even the smalles isaaq clan, arab are building 64 km multimillion road project. every 10 km they contribute the government will pay 5 or more !. if other somali sates adopt the same policy qabylad will be a somali success story. They will have to or they will cease to exist as an ethnic group. They will either die out due to famine/disease or be fully assimilated by bantus/xabashis.
@Yusuuf. Reer Somaliland have learnt positive qabyaalad which means we compete with eachother in building businesses, schools, infrastructure.

This projects are Qabiil funded, not Qabyaalad funded.theyuusuf143 wrote:No. but it can be used for better ways not just fadhi kuririr or killing other people. in somaliland the government inrtroduced 'Crowdsourcing' schemes to use qabyalad as a tool of development. every qabil is building roads. hospitals, schools bridges, fishing ports etc. even the smalles isaaq clan, arab are building 64 km multimillion road project. every 10 km they contribute the government will pay 5 or more !. if other somali sates adopt the same policy qabylad will be a somali success story.
