I want to get Senegalese braids. I've a Ghanaian friend who does hair but she said she has to use fake hair in order for them to stay put and polished.

My hair is pretty long and curly. My question is can I pray while I have fake hair?

I like big braids and I cannot lie! I always thought fake hair and wigs were haraam....but as for the prayer question, its more to do with waysada. If the water can't penetrate through the braids your wayso is invalid...therefore no salat with big braids.

Sis, I had those braids done last year. It was really amazing. Saved so much time getting ready and it's so diverse and versatile. But I must warn you of something. When I removed mine.. My hair became like raano raano where the braids where attached.. Almost like dreads.. I was devastated.. It took me to several hours and a lot of work to get my real hair combed out.. So just be careful.
But I really loved it and life is so much easier with braids..

For the prayer part you are fine because the hair that's used to strengthen the braids are synthetic and the water just like you said penetrates straight to the scalp..
