Looking younger than your age...

I was grabbing some early morning coffee (first time in a while) and I made small talk with the barista. He asked me I'm so-and-so's sister and I replied in the affirmative. Apparently, he knows both of my brothers. He probed further and asked if I was younger or older than them. I tell him I'm the eldest. He seemed to think I looked around the same age as them, when we're nearly five years apart and I've got nearly a decade on the youngest one. I suppose age gaps get narrower or become less apparent over time between siblings. I was somewhat humored. Then I replied that I'm close to thirty and he literally had a heart attack from shock. I suppose people conceal their age after some time because of this.

Q. Are you young looking yourself? Are there any upsides/downsides you've experienced from this?

i think this is female issue. black female, including somali happen to look younger than their age. my aunt, older than my dad seemes never pass 33 years old! for Allah's sake her kids passed that age! innallilah

no one ever told me i am younger than my age.

I am not young looking, most people who see me can guess my real age and they are right.

And as for women, i noticed that women peak in their early 20's, and then they go into decline and start looking average between 23-30.

And then they hit 35yrs old and then they look stunningly beautiful again.

lol@ Idman, it can be tough soomaha. I agree its both a blessing and a curse. You know I always assumed that brown don't frown or black don't crack. However, it isn't always the case. You reminded me of an encounter I had years ago when I visited Hargeysa. I was about 17, and a shop attendant asked me my age, assuming me to be 12 or 13. I told him my age and he was surprised. Dude had the audacity to ask me why I wasn't married yet. I had the shock of my life and judging by the look of appall on my face he assumed me to be rich, since I had the luxury to forgo early marriage.

I always get confused for an 18 year old but I'm actually 22. When I'm not wearing make up I get confuse for a 16 year old lol. I dno its baby face I guess and being a woman. Men usually tend to look older than their age while it's the opposite for women.

Majority of East Africans ( Horners) and East Asians tend to look younger then their real age especially women, unlike European, Latino and West Africans who tend to look much older then their real age , you will see a 20 years old cadaan oo Habar u eeg sometimes . It must be genetic.

Oh Basra, bless your oversuspicious heart. It's the incontrovertible truth mon ami. I'm sure even you can't deny that many Somali women have age defying looks. I just find it hilarious when an old somali lady calls me habo when she could be my ayeeyo (chronologically speaking). I mean I know she looks young by all appearances, but she's old enough to give birth to my hooyo. Why not just embrace your age.
