Chelsea young star wants to play for Somali national team

Post by Machiavelli2 »

The 19-year-old Chelsea striker Feruz Islam has said he wants to play for Somali soccer national team, ocean stars.

Feruz who previously turned down invitations to join up with Under-19 squads of Scotland declared a desire to play for Somalia, the nation he fled aged just 10 before becoming a teenage sensation at Celtic FC.

Chelsea hit kid has turned his back on Scotland after pulling out of yet another youth squad while fully fit.

The talented striker, who was born in Somalia but grew up in Glasgow, was wanted by Scotland Under-19 boss Ricky Sbragia to take part in the European Championship Elite Round in England.

But Feruz made it clear he had no intention of turning up for international duty and will instead play for Chelsea.

Record Sport reported that the Scotland Football Association have become increasingly frustrated at his lack of desire to play for Scotland and growing interest for country of birth Somalia.

The highly-rated teenager was born in Somalia but after his family sought asylum in Glasgow he signed for Celtic.

He made his Parkhead debut as a 14-year-old in Tommy Burns’s Memorial Match and featured
for Scotland’s Under-17 side at the same age – after former SFA chief executive Gordon Smith fought for a change in FIFA’s guidelines to accommodate players like Feruz who had five years education in this country.

Dutchman Wotte has previously likened Feruz to ex-Brazil superstar Romario and believes he is one of Scotland’s top prospects.

Ina Adeer, I don't know if Feruz Islam is Bantu, one of the other beesha Jareerweyne or an "ethnic" Somali, because there are many from the latter group who just look like him and it is very hard to distinguish between them. Dr Yalahow can help us to illustrate it better. Laakiin, as a matter of fact, not many Somalis will ditch the opportunity to play for a European country and instead opt to play for Somalia. He should be a hero for all Somalis and a good role model for all Somali kids.

In terms about the Bantu Somalis, I'm currently reading a book written by a Jareerweyne scholar, Mohamed A. Eno, called;

"THE BANTU – JAREER SOMALIS Unearthing Apartheid in the Horn of Africa."

http://www.academia.edu/1220963/The_Ban ... _of_Africa

It is free and online and I urge every Somali to read it with an open mind.

Ina Adeer, great advice, he is very young and should surround himself with wise people who could ground him. He should learn from the demise of Balotelli. It is tough to crack a spot in the elite teams and he should consider joining the lesser teams and he may shine there. As long as he has a desire to play for Somalia, he could motivate other young diaspora Somalis to consider playing for their country.

Macha,
At least balotelli made it to the top for a while.as for feruz,
Chelsea tried to loan him out to blackpool and cardiff.both moves failed and chelsea want to get rid. Not sure where he will go from here.He seems to have developed a bad reputation from his early days at celtic-

Lennon said: "I don't know what the latest situation is with him.
"I haven't seen him since the start of pre-season – suffice to say he won't be a Celtic player. I think he's been badly advised. I don't think the football is the main issue here.
''He was going along very nicely when he had a good agent in John Colquhoun. Then, for some reason, he decided to let somebody else come in and take over.

Ina Adeer, how is he a Tanzanian? He could be related to all of us. We are one Somali big family.

Ina Adeer, thanks for the extra insight into Feruz's troubles, he is still a young man and could resurrect his career by learning from his past mistakes. I wish the brother all the best.

Ina Adeer, thanks for the picture of his family. Maashallah, what a beautiful Somali family. One great thing about the Jareerweeyne Somalis is the father is always present and integral to the family. You wouldn't see their sons kniving or shooting one another to death in London, Minesotta or in Toronto. Allow noo badi walaalaheena Somali Bantu.

Mahoka

Ina Adeer, many Somali sources (some who personally know his family) confirmed to me that he is Somali. Off course he made mistakes, but who didn't when were his age. Why is playing for Scotland more important to you than playing for his mother country? Many West Africans who were born and raised in Europe play for their parents motherland. Will you prefer to represent England or Somaliland if you had an opportunity to be wanted by both countries? Either choice is fine. Let's respect his choice.

Bantus in Somalia are Somalian, but not Somali. Like Blacks in the UK may be called British but not Scottish, English.

This guy is British and Somalian.

But not Scottish or Somali.

Ina Adeer, you just invented a new word "Somalian" for Somalis like you and me. I used to hear (still do) from foreigners who didn't know the individual is called Somali rather than "Somalian". Check my second post in this thread. I posted a book (free online to read) that challenges the myths we were fed to believe of who is an "ethnic Somali" and who isn't. Ina Adeer, read it and expand your understanding of "other Somalis". Celebrating Diversity and the acceptance of all Somalis as one equal society can only free us from the ignorance we were buried in for centuries. Equality and respect to one another are the key words missing from our narrative of Somali-ness. See where we are now?

He is right they are Somalians Or Somalia nationals. but not ethnic Somalis although they can be considered ethnic Somalis because they have no links with their original countries culture language or religion.
