Congrats to them Masha allah.
Yusuf look at the Surnames/Family names of the majority of these students

Egeh Jama- Cige Jamac
Guuleed
Ileeye
Dabay
Diiriye
Duaale-Ducaale
Obsieh-Obsiiye
The quintessential Somali names.
Now look at the names of the Schools they attend, apart from the one in Burco Dayah/Dayax and Ilays, the rest are just foreign and a complete contradiction to these students names and our culture.

Does that mean you consider Imaam Shaafici foreign?

Nice topic btw, congrats to them

No, I dont, theologically speaking. I meant in terms of our traditional Somali surnames which most of these students are carrying, most of these Schools are using foreign names to Somali culture, and that's including Imamu Shaafici.

Imam shaafici is foreign. as agent said our schools should have Somali related names. Our shuyuukh and national heroes should come first before foreigners. In burao we have sheikh bashiir, sheikh ibrahim and sheikh cismaan nuur. sheikh yusuf alkawnayn. in hargeisa there is sheikh madar. in borama there is sheikh cali jawhar. we need more schools with darawish and SNM and adal empire related names.

Agent447 gave a reasonable answer to my question ...you on the other hand Yusuf waad yara waalan tahay baan u malaynayaa.

How you can disregard the originator of the school of practice the vast majority of Somalis follow and have followed
for the last 1000 years as foreign is beyond me. The Sheekhs you've mentioned ultimately derive their knowledge from the Imaam.

Nothing in culture is ever pure if this is what you are aiming for, culture constantly changes
and evolves over time (although we should try to preserve as much as possible  ...at least the good stuff).

Maybe in the future when we are no longer Muslim, maybe then we can consider Imaam Shaaifici foreign

In the meantime, u adkasyta magayada shuyuukhda
:dj:

Lool the sheikh is foreign because he was not Somali. the fact that we follow his kutub is not different than the fact we have Latino alphabet. may be his books where more available to our sheiks and that's how we became shaafuciya !

I agree with Yusuf and Agent. Somalis need to stop naming our streets and landmarks after non-Somalis. I'm tired of seeing Blooming's school or London restaurant or October street. It sounds like it was named by badows who think they're ilbax.

I agree with Yusuf, Agent and my sister Hydrogen but why stop at street, landmarks and schools? Why don't we give our kids Somali names like Guled and Sagal instead Abu Bakr and Fikriyah.

They should steer away from private schools for now as a way to increase the literacy rate as high as possible. A lot of people cannot afford school if it is made private and expensive.
