Walking

Post by COOL-MAN »

Yesterday evening I walked from work place to my house after finishing work. This is the third time I did so. Took me 2 and half hours to complete the trip. Each time my legs ached badly. The last twenty minutes were most unbearable each time. I had drivers hooting their horns (acquaintances I think) on the motorway whilst I walked on the side road. One neighbour pulled up beside and offered me a lift but I declined n thanked him.

What are the benefits of walking?

One significant thing I noticed is I sleep better. Sleep overwhelms you the minute you put your head down :blessed:

Gives us the longest distance you walked and how often?
When did you start doing it.

Well I doubt anyone can beat that. It was neccesity and the search of a better life that took you there. Even then I doubt you walked all the way from from jigjiga to tripoli without employing another mode in some parts of that journey. Well done.

Cherine,

Well done girl. 1 and half hours is not easy especially when you have all sorts of means to get to where you want to under your disposal.
How often do you do it? And what are the benefits.

Games,
Was it tahriib too? 8 miles is not easy.
Guys,
I am talking about regular walkers. People who abandon their cars and the trains just to walk for excercise purposes. Any takers?

Wow Cool-man -that's amazing.
When I was too poor to buy bus pass I use to walk everywhere - honestly didn't notice any physical change. Now longest I walk is 20 mins and slow pace.
I think if you're obese, it helps you lose weight.

This link explains the benefits of walking in details.

Guardian,

When you are young walking comes natural and one is oblivious to its benefits because you are active most of the time anyways, playing, running etc

But when you get past school life. Things begin to change, you enter working life. Buy a car, sit in an office, sit in restaurants to eat etc etc . You muscles get lazy and begin to get stiff and immobile eventually if you don't do anything to stop the decline. This is what happened to me I guese. I tried running in the park aaway lakin. Anigaa isku qosle dad kale intii la gaarin kkkkkk, am not obese not even fat but my muscles have been subjected to being idle for too long.
The goal is eventually to start running every evening and morning depending on the availability of time InshaAllah

Thanks for the link.

About 7 hours in total up & down Mt. Snowdon. Would've got there quicker had it not been for taking my own route and poor weather.

Ps.you don't need to walk for such a duration of time.chap, you will aggressively exhaust your muscles.a light 25-30 minute walk will yield similar results without the fatigue element.

I wear trainers to my work place. Black trainers that is. I already have the urge to walk today on a Sunday when I don't have work to commute to. I am thinking of walking from acton to parkroyal asda to buy stuff. It's only 60 minutes go and back. Or you can give me lift in your micra as the walking back will be laden with goods. :D
