Mixing Shia and Sunni Divorce proceedings

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

So for the Scholars here and esteemed Garoobs,

A friend of mine who is an extremly private person posed a question to me (dunno why he thinks I am scholarly in the ways of the religion - Duniya expert but ignorant in Akhiiro)

Is it a must that a husband announce the divorce at the masjid or to the local Muslim community? I thought it was a Shia practice. I always thought the Talaqa, 90 day probationary period, and notifying the her next of kin male relative + two male Muslim witness was sufficient.

My Sunni friend who is confused about the entire process but is too shy to run to the masjid and the Imam (you know how some Somali Imams be). I am guessing its a Shia practice to make a public announcement.

On another related matter, if a woman has been married before she does not require the permission of her muharam to get married?

Jazak Allah,

Notifying her next of kin seems to be the way to do it.

Garoob can get married without needing a wali.
