More than 240,000 people in Somalia are food insecure, a consortium of 19 non-governmental organizations said on Thursday.



In a statement released in Nairobi, the aid agencies called on the international community to step in and save over 40,000 households who are suffering from the acute drought.
“The rains which were being expected this mid-year have [been] delayed,” Clare Ogara, from the Somalia NGO consortium, told Anadolu Agency. “Thousands are being forced to eat one meal a day. There is an acute shortage of water and thus people are forced to rely on contaminated water.”

The most hard-hit regions in Somalia are Maroodijeeh, Gebiley and Awdal, which are the main food production towns.

“No water means no life,” Ogara said. “We have records that show that around 35-40 percent of livestock in the affected areas have died.”

The aid groups said that malnutrition in Somalia was at an all-time high, especially among infants, the sick and the elderly.

The west of s/l badiye folk are much worse off than their eastern counterparts, despite having higher rain fall.

i suggested to buy a land in godey( the river area). guess what i was told? war ma rer baaro bad kireysaneysa ko shaqeeyo baaraha?. i told them , yes if i need it but why you my balamoondo cousins not work for me, illen koley wahba ma haysane? i will be paying you well too.lol

Our people kaluunkana sanka ayey ka qabsadaan beerahana jareer baa ka shaqeeysto ayey dhahaan. This is despite the fact he who has a farm rarely goes hungry and we know the benefits that comes with consuming fish.

we need to stop sending money to lazy people. the only time you send money should be to studants fees and eldery.

the guy was telling us, he works 3 jobs to send money back home to his mom and young adult sisters. kolaha, they have 2 maids and sleep all day!

when he back home he cut to half the money he sends to them! bck home people think in la'agta dibada iska taltaalo on la shaqeysan.

Somali farmers use primitive agricultural techniques. Most of those farms are subsistence farms with little overproduction.

In the West the farmers use advanced techniques and sophisticated machines so only a few people are farmers.
