So I was thinking of tutoring young kids around my neighbourhood during weekends. I have heard there's a lot of money to be made in the tutoring business and I also wanted to help kids in the community do well in school and teach them maths and science. But I was disuaded by my parents because they say that Somali parents would rather hire an cadaan or asian than a Somali to teach their kids. They told me about a women who hires an cadaan to teach her kids who are all in year 3 (8-9 yrs old) basic addition and multiplication (which is taught in bloody nursery) and pays £50-60/hr.

Another woman pays some asian dude £30/hr each kid and they learn nothing.
They don't even look back and check what these guys are supposedly teaching their kids. It's the same with Qur'an/malcaamad classes. They just see it as a break from the kids.

My question is why do Somalis prefer ajnabi doctors, teachers, or hire ajnabis etc before their own. Why provide custom to someone who despises you and robs you when you can actually gcould actually get a decent Somali tutor? I have developed a name for this condition - it's called Anyone.but.Somalis or ABS for short.

I have never seen a more self defeating people in my life. An cadaan would rather hire an incompetent cadaan than anyone rlse who is half decent.

Everyone I know with kids had a somali macalin duksi and they take their kids to tutors don't know that it matters to them the ethnicity of the employees at the establishment they use. Plus my somali sister did tutor without any problems.

I used to go to these tutoring places, you don't learn anything because the tutor[a pakistani] was more concerned with watching the cricket match than teaching us. We used to go their houses, scary now that i think about it but alhamdullilah nothing untoward happened to us. One of our neighbours daughters wasn't so lucky she got molested by a Qur'an teacher who would come to our houses. Alhamdullilah our sitting room was open plan but theirs had a door and he would ask the older girl to go out and close the door behind her.

My sis was teaching general academia. If I had a kid and there was a Somali kid who'd studied the subject the needed tutoring in I would pick the Somali kid over anyone else.

I just think a thread like this is trying to pass off individual experiences as fact. Neither accurate nor fair on the community.
