Mahadsanid never seemed to cut it. I found "Waan yara bukaa" online, but don't ever remember hearing it.

"Please" comes back from the online dictionaries with no result.

How do you communicate these concepts? Is it just the walaal, innaadeer, saaxib, etc., the relaltionship words that accompany the request or statement? Or is there something else I'm missing?

in Afsoomaali we do have thank you which is " waad mahadsantahay" but Please! I think we have to borrow from Arabic and use " fadlan".


These days fadlan is more or less the word we use for please, let us see what others can add.

FG. these polite requests were alien to early Somalis.

"Wan yara bukaa" means I'm not feeling well.. No? What does it have to do with please and thank you???

we actually dont need to have word to word for every word as long as it serves the purpose.

French has tried to come up a word for every new word they have heard and they have failed.

if it happens we dont have a word then we borrow from other languages.
