When will the begging stop
This past week I read an article about how the governor of J/hoose held a meeting about planning for possible flooding (shabelle river already flooded with predictable cholera out break).
The plan was simple, to tell the NGOs they need to plan for the almost certain flooding of the Jubba river.
The level of mental handicap, complete lack of responsibility and continued reliance on foreign aid like drug addicts is damning. This film is played out in many towns in Somalia where planning and meetings revolve around which NGO should be doing what and why mayor X is unable to convince NGO Y to come to town to govern. Because the task of actually running cities, states, and the nation has been handed over to NGOs, contractors, and hired mercenaries (AMISOM) while self appointed MPs, presidents, PMs sit and talk. You will come to realize every somali "expert" CV is filled with different NGO work, positions at the UN.
Somali leaders spend half their time in Nairobi, Addis ababa, doing rounds on European embassies passing a begging bowl.
This same attitude, waiting for others to provide things also plays out in the Diaspora. Self styled activist in Minneapolis will wail and howl at lack of funding and "discrimination".

Blame Siad Barre. The culture of begging started with him. Somalia was a self-sufficient country with some industry and huge prospects before he came and turned into a Marxist beggar-nation.
Re: When will the begging stop
sxb somalia was never self sufficient..infact somalis were more corrupted before he became president

It was very corrupt before he came. I'm not arguing that it wasn't, but it had strong prospects and an actual skilled middle-class.

Re: When will the begging stop
The craziest and most shocking story i have ever heard was a guddomiye or agaasime in xamar outside his office was filled with dhiiqo. he and the ppl in his office didn't do shidh about it waiting for the turks to clean it. meeshana maalin walba dhiiqadas ay dhex soconayaan. Why not employ some ppl who cleans the dhiiqo. Somali ppl are f-king Brain dead no garasho whatsoever.
Re: When will the begging stop
Although the new 60-68 government was
indeed democratic, it was also very weak and courpte.
The politicians were incompetence from the very beginning.

Though Siad Barre wasn't better. The only good thing Siad Barre ever did was encouraging Manufacture from 69-74. In every other aspect he screwed up big time. The economic policies was a joke and made Somalia unattractive for foreign investment.

When Saudis stabbed us in the back by imposing a livestock ban
in favor of their investment in Australia, the Somali economy almost
collapsed duo to the poor infrastructure and non-existence financial institutions.

I laugh at people who say Somalia was something in the 70s.
The country was a graveyard for international aid and owned 4 billion shilling
to various countries and organizations across the world.
