The worse thing you can do as a leader is use violence against protesters. It makes you look weak and insecure. Even if they are damaging property you use non-lethal methods such as tear-gas, water-cannons, batons, rubber-bullets etc. Protests are highly dependent on human effort and stamina. After a while, the people shouing and screaming all day get tired and go home. That is of course assuming the bombing was done by the government in the first place. I wouldn't put it past CIA/MOSSAD fifth column agents like in Iran.
