The two Korea's want unification even through war yet...

Post by Unionist »

Why is Somali Republic different from the Koreans? Koreans have gone through much worse and both North/South still have diplomatic negotiations between themselves and see a future where they become one. I still believe that in the future, Somalia will become one and not balkanized after Al shabaab is dealt with as well as corrupted politicians/clan elders, but as times go on it becomes harder to be optimistic.

fool let me tell you that the vast majority in each of the two sides ( somaliland and somalia ) don't want somali unity because:

in somaliland most of it's citizens are determined to maintain and formalize their nation's reclaimed independence 24 years ago and not go back to the disastrous old union pre 1991

in italian somalia despite the rhetoric of uniting with somaliland most people there can't logically be serious if they can't even unite themselves thanks to the plague of clan federalism which has made pl jl galmudug etc sovereign

The federation gives autonomous rights to the states though, meaning that they have jurisdiction over army, tax, business management, navy, etc...

Somaliland and Somalia is pretty much united under the international view despite this faux rethoric of independency spewed by SL. Somaliland is no different then any clan federal state. its practically one clan enclave where the elite subjugates minority clans to rally behind the secessionist agenda to the point they want to reclaim colonial borders despite objection from the natives of particular areas *Cough* *Cough* (Khatumo).

Somalia shouldnt be concerned about Somaliland at the moment, they themselves cant get their shit together and Somaliland would be wise not to run in to a burning building. If i was somaliland i would run to another continent even.

Pluss you can hardly expect a region like Somaliland to feel included in TFG located in mogadishu when there is no indication that the TFG represents them and not just mogadishu. No aid is sparred and sent to Somaliland. no help no attention! There is nothing that indicates that the Somali flag in mogadishu with the blue flag & white star represents Waaqoyi Galbeed as well.

TFG havent even discussed the issue of Somaliland not even once. Shocking!!

The Main issue with Somalia/Somaliland is this climate of mistrust that came as a result of the civil war. The reason for the war and reason for Clan Federation beneath the surfice is not clan its more of a Conflict of resources and injustice.

Before the civil war people living north and far down south had to go to mogadishu to get what they need from housing,Education, passport and jobs. Somalis from various regions had these complaint about not going all the way to mogadishu to get these services but to recieve them locally.

So that fueled the present day insecurity of why they dont trust and object a central state cuz they associate it with unequal distrubution sharing of resources.
Another thing that they also associate unity and central state with is Authoritarian over rule excercizing over them that would give unequal power sharing.
Many who object Unity and Centralized Governance demand genuine political participation. Hence why you will commonly hear '' i dont want Mogadishu authority to appoint a mayor for my town.

Reinforcing this mistrust against a centralized state is newly common practice to organize a political party somewhere and claim presidency over a given region.

This is what many need to have a real understanding for and we cannot continue to mischaracterize our issues and we need to have clear calm highly tolerant discussion where we look at the underlying factors to our problems and come out with a mechanism solutions and ideas to solve them and get ourselves out of it. At the rate we are going right now every somali region will be engulfed by Ethiopia and Kenya. This is not an issue of Somaliland vs Somalia. This is an issue of survival and sovereignity of the somali people

Unfortuntely this will require people to leave their hate, egos and selfish agendas at the trash bin.

If we dont do that These corrupt polticians who dont care about their people, clan or land will lead us to destruction. when that happens lets see if you can brag about ''Bur Bur land* iyo *Balaayo State**

South & North Korea are actually claiming
each other and technically, they are still in state of war.

As for the topic, it's have been disccused thousands of times.
There is more chance that SL or PL becoming a country in the next 20
years than Somalia functioning as government. Let's wait n see.

@TheMightyNomad

I'm very thankful for the long detail you've given and contributed to the discussion.

All of the points you've made are well thought out and make sense. However, my optimism has been dampened since it's been more than 20 going on 25 since a functioning government in Somalia. The Stakeholders in Somalia are doing everything they can to extend the status quo and create political unrest between factions and divide/conquer tactics have been effective.

Now it has come to the point of viewing Somali's has foreigners based on the colonial borders.
