How is it that we have an Asian guy, Jeremy Lin, playing ball with Kobe Bryant and shooting threes and layups on niggas in the NBA while we don't even have one Somali NBA player? There are Somalis in Ohio, Minnesota, Chicago and Seattle so you'd think we'd at least be able to produce several NBA players right?






You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

They produced 1 shitty player that played for 5 different teams in 5 years out of a population of 4 million and they been in the states for over 160 years. He doesn't even play with Kobe I guess the news didn't reach your tuulo yet. What are you going to tell us next Obama won re-election?

The Asians have been in the states since the 1800s
There numbers are greater and are the highest educated group in the united states.

I love how you're getting defensive.

Calm down mate. While I am aware of that, Linsanity will go down as one of the most memorable events in NBA history. I am aware he moved to the Hornets but at least he played in the NBA alongside Kobe. A Somali has never done that buddy. Besides, Somalis play way more basketball than Asians, plus we're much taller too (our average height I think is 5'11"). No excuses.

The average Somali man is taller, stronger and more athletic than the average Asian man. I just find it strange that we can't produce one NBA level basketball player.

It takes twice the usual amount of exercise for a Somali male to get rid of that midriff

Somalis have no patience, and don't have parents who will support and motivate them to succeed. They do well in high school age, then loose interest. I know a guy who was great distance runner, and winning all kind medals, he was offered scholarships, his trainer tried everything to get him to accept one of the scholarships. Kid wasn't interested, his white trainer gave up after a while.

Really? Most Somali dudes are quite skinny. Where do you think the nickname "skinnies" came from? But I see what you mean. My brother is the opposite of me and he is quite lean whereas I tend to balloon up in weight. But the thing is, if you're playing in the NBA, that's non stop exercise as it is and anyone would be ripped if they went through that. Even Derrick Rose diets and has his own chef. Also, Kyrie Irving was a little fat but had to diet to trim some fat in order to improve his game. No excuses.

This. What a horrible waste of talent. I think this is the case because our parents really didn't know much of anything. I think our generation should be able to harness the talent of our future kids. Well, at least we have Mo Farah to show for it. There is also a Somali female playing in the WNBA. I think she's from Sweden.

Asian got discipline and patients.

I am more surprised by the lack of Somali professional soccer/football players in Europe. This is a game a large portion of the Somali male population spends a lot of time playing and it does not require you to be physically gifted at all. Most Somali teens lack two things that required to make it as a professional athlete; commitment and discipline.

Lugo baasto having faraxs aren't made for playing ball. Joke.

OP. Same reason there aren't any Somali football/soccer players despite there being a lot of talented youth - no discipline or work-ethic. So many scouts for top teams have picked Somali kids and yet there isn't a single decent Somali footballer.

I think it's two things.

1.Talent

We do have this but you can't just coax along with talent alone.

2. Dedication/Commitment

Contrary to popular belief, even if you don't have talent you can still be a respectable athlete. 10,000 hours rule applies. This is exactly what we lack.

Jeremy Lin graduated from Harvard with a economics degree averaging a 3.2 GPA. His SAT scores for math and English put him in the 98th percentile. What can't Asians do?
