Meher or Yarad which one to Pay first

I asked my wife-to-be if I can pay the Meher first because that is what allah will hold me accountable for the day of judgement and pay that manly imposed yarad later on when I get it and she refused. She wants me to pay the Yarad first. What if I die while I owe Meher. Allah will not ask me why I did not pay Yarad but will punish me if I do not pay meher.

Do you think Meher has to be paid before yarad if the guy cannot afford to pay all?
