Luis1: Why are Cubans hostile to Somalis
Luis,
I have an ax to grind. A friend of mine was in Havana and mentioned to some Cuban associates that he was from Somalia. They gave him a cold shoulder and one said Cuba fought Somalia and many of its soldiers were injured or killed in the war. They spoke of the 100+ Cuban soldiers executed by the WSLF in the spring of 1978.
It has been over 30 years but the hostility is still there! Why? I never knew that Cubans never forgave their enemies. Why welcome the Angolans when many of them fought for the African Che Guevera, Jonas Savimbi?
Also, why does the internet in Santiago suck so badly? Even in war torn countries like Somalia, there is better internet. Communism has socked the life out of Cuba and you can't even enjoy your money there: no free internet, 2 kinds of currency floating around, limited cell phones. It is like jail.
So Luis, why should Somalis be ProCuba when your people view us as enemies? How many monuments are there for the Cuban war veterans? Is Cardoso Villavicencio still alive? He was the last Cuban prisoner of war released in 1988.
I pray that the system in Cuba changes and the Castro brothers are kicked out of power.

Someone mentioned the 1977 Ethio-Somalo war and Luis1 is yet to make an entrance! This could only mean one of two things: either our Cuban amigo's sophisticated alert system for such an ocassion malfunctioned or god forbid he himself has met with some unfortunate accident that rendered him compeletely incapicitated.

Re: Luis1: Why are Cubans hostile to Somalis
1977 somalia would have won the war if cubans and russians did not interfere the war... Luis

Cubans dont hate Somalia and I dont hate Somalis
I am still alive and with good health, I hope to live many more years and talk to you about Somalia and other issues.
Dear AbdiWahab:
I dont hate Somalis and I dont think Cubans hate Somalis. The Cubans feel Somalis are living in a nightmare, because they have been fighting a bloddy civil war since 1978. We would like to help Somalis to ease their pains and suffering. Cuba is a poor country but I am sure that many Cubans( doctors and teachers) are willing to help Somalis and reduce the chaos, hunger and drought in their country.
You are right, Communism has destroyed Cuba in political, human and economical terms. If you say something against Castro, you go to jail, this is the reality of Cuba. Castro government keeps a tight control on Internet because he is afraid of free information. Communism doesnt like free information.
Carlos Villavicencio is still alive, he remained in a somali jail for over 10 years. He returned to Cuba in 1988 and has written several book about his experiences in Somalia.
I would like to ask you a question about WSLF

Do you know what happened to WSLF after Ogaden War?
Did they continue the war against Ethiopia?
Was WSLF defeated by Ethiopia?
Re: Luis1: Why are Cubans hostile to Somalis
Wslf means Somalia to Luis. Careful when you reply to the above set of questions. If you write wslf were defeated and melted away he will use as reference to say Somalis were defeated by the Ethiopians in 1977. Waa mid qafiifsan kan

I always thought luis was a Somali troll but every time I look at his IP address, it really is coming from Latin America. It's so fascinating he just randomly shows up when 1977-78 is brought up.

Re: Luis1: Why are Cubans hostile to Somalis
Maybe his grudge against Somalia is personal. From his quasi-obsessive interest in this particular subject, it is quite possible that Luis has lost a loved one, perhaps a father or brother in the 1977 War.FAH1223 wrote:I always thought luis was a Somali troll but every time I look at his IP address, it really is coming from Latin America. I dont have any problems with Somalis. I only want to know the standpoint of Somalis about Ogaden War.Maybe his grudge against Somalia is personal. Somalis say Barre won Ogaden War but they dont show me any source to prove that point. I say Somalia lost the war and I have thousands of sources to prove my standpoint, this is the principal difference between us.
Re: Luis1: Why are Cubans hostile to Somalis
Luis1, we told you zillion times Somalia lost it because of Soviet military involvement and Cuba supplying tens of thousands of soldiers on the side of Ethiopia with far more advanced artillery than the Somalis had.
The Soviet air power heavily bombarded Jigjiga - the nerve center of Somali reinforcement and supplies - when the Somali military was 70 miles from Addis Abeba. Additionally, the Soviets air dropped new tanks, heavy artillery, and thousands of troops on Jigjiga. While the Soviet air bombardment and air drops were continuing, the over 15,000 Cuban troops were tying down the Somali front lines. At the same time, Cubans were training the newly recruited over 65,000 Ethiopian troops. Basically, the Warsaw Pact cut the Somali supplies and reinforcements in half while we virtually had no air power and capable air defense that can withstand the Soviet onslaught.
You educate us, Luis, how small country like Somalia, without any foreign military assistance, can withstand such an onslaught?
You should educate yourself on this point as well: After the World War II, the only wars that Soviet military fought were the Aghan War and the Ogaden War.
Listen here Fidel Castro, Russian officials, and American officials at that time admitting the Soviet and Cuban military involvement saved Ethiopia.
@4:55 "Mengiste Haile Mariam basked in glory. The Cubans and Soviets had saved his regime...."
What more proof do you need Luis? Your quest for Somalis to prove what happened in that war never stops
