Re: SOMALI MUSIC 1980s (Iftin Band, Luul Jeylani, Axhmed Sharif)
Faadumo Qasim passed away couple of years ago, AUN.
Luul jiilaane lived in Minnosota last time I heard.
Axmed Sharif Killer was very ill at one time and reportedly gone compeletely blind. I am not sure of his current status.
Qalanjo was living somewhere in London for sometime now. I don't know the whereabouts of Sulfa.

Hi,
Thanks for that information! Would you know who the original leader of Iftin Band was? I am trying to find out who owns the copyrights to certain songs by Iftin. And would you know a way I could reach Radio Mogadishu? Thanks!

Re: SOMALI MUSIC 1980s (Iftin Band, Luul Jeylani, Axhmed Sharif)
i am actually looking for some more artists of that time to do some interviews with them and learn more about their music. If the artists are already dead like Fadumo Qaasim or Sharif Killer i would be more than happy if somebody knows a contact to their relatives like wife, childern, brothers or sisters.
I am doing this project with a friend who lives in berlin, germany whereas i am living in new york, us. So if anybody has an idea of someone who could connect us with either the UK somali community, where i heared Ahmed Naji Sacaad, Qadijo Qalanjo and Khadra Dahir are living or a someone who could help us connect with the US and Canada community where some of the Dur-Dur and Iftin members and Xasan Samatar and Luul Jeylaani are said to live.
I would as well be very curious if some of you or your families do have some physical recordings (tapes i guess) of some of these artists or the likes.
We would as well be happy about literally ANY informationsource concearning the music world of Somalia during the 60s,70s & 80s. We would also like to do interviews with people who worked or did go to see concerts in the nightclubs such as Jazeera, Juba or Al-Curuba Nightclub.
Below the extended list of the artists of whom we'd be happy to get some more informations:
Dur-Dur Band
Iftin
Cabdullahi Sulfa
Shimaali Axmed Shimaali
Luul Jeylaani
Maryan Naasir
Axmed Shariif Killer
Xasan Adan Samatar
Waaberi Hargeysa
Danaan Hargeysa
Cali Naaji Sacad
Kooxda Shareero
Axmed Naaji Sacad
Son of Faadumo Qaasim. (Karam Qaasim)
Libaaxyada Maaweeliska Banaadir
Kooxda Halgan
Qadiijo Qalanjo
Khadra Daahir
Any help would be highly appriciated,
Vik & Nicolas

Faadumo qaasim died end of 2011. Axmed kileer passed away in Yemen. Not sure when but I heard it on the radio probably long time ago. I think head of iftin band used to be either shankar or saciid saalax who was an abwaan and an employee of the ministry of education.

I heard about shankar and saciid saalax on some poetry program that aired on SNTV. That is why I am not sure of who was the head of iftin band among the two. I don't know about their whereabouts or even any of their relatives. I will ask my uncle who knows about somali music bands.
