Somali civil war tribunals.

Post by momme1234 »

So recently I started reading and researching about the Rwandan genocide. and something I was amazed by was the tribunals against the participants of the genocide and how that affected the Tutsi population having less of a grudge against the Hutu's. As you all know Somalia's civil war in the 90's was brutal and led to millions of people dying because of lack of nutrition or other causes.Certain warlords were keeping and stocking the food and giving it out to their clan members and supporters and a lot of warlords also committed massacres and several minority groups were deeply persecuted by the Somali majority. The Bantu people were harassed and their farms was token away from them by clan militias. Most of these warlords are living to this day in Somalia or in foreign countries. Some of these men are even in the Government or hold important political posts, Some are in business and some in exile. Hussein Mohamed Farrah Aidid lives in Uganda and Ali Mahdi in a farm outside of Mogadishu. These men are dangerous and should remain the rest of their lives in prison. So my idea is to create civil war tribunals labelled after the Rwandan ones with the help of Un to put these men were they belong. Appoint educated international law judges from all clans publicly televise them and persecute every warlord who have engaged in human rights abuses from all clans and for the first them acknowledge the things who happened to the Bantu and other minority groups as Bajuni. By the hands of Al Shabaab,Government or Clan militia. And also put those how was a part of the genocide against Isaaq to jail. And also other events suffered by other clans. This is in no way a form of clan baiting i only think the way for Somalia to succeed is to face it's demons from the past and defeat them.

There won't be any tribunals as long as every one believes his tribesmen are saints.

Let us revert back to our traditional forms of governance and clan territories. Somalis of different clans cannot live together in one state, federal or national.

Anyone who thinks a Rwandan type tribunal is possible in the present day Somalia, has apparently taken leave of his/her senses.

I can't see the Federal Government getting involved, but I would expect Federal States to have the power to indict and extradite. I don't know how many like Morgan will be left when the time comes, but it could happen.

^ You expect the these tribal fiefdoms (that is pretty much what the so called federal states are) to indict and prosecute former warlords for possible war crimes? It is nigh impossible for this ever to occur in Somalia. It is far more likely that each fiefdom will name a street, school, airport or other major land marks or better yet erect a statue in memory of their war hero.
