Mogadishu - A cyclone has hit the semi-autonomous Somali region of Puntland, leaving thousands of people homeless, officials said on Tuesday.
Cyclone Chapala generated large waves that hit the coast, destroying dwellings and fishing boats and cutting off roads, local official Abdullahi Hashi said.
He said nomads staying in eastern Puntland were the worst affected by the storm, which hit the region beginning Sunday and is continuing.
No deaths have so far been reported. Hashi called for emergency aid for the victims.
Chapala originated in the Arabian Sea and has been battering Yemen.
Cyclones are rare in Somalia, but Puntland was also hit by the nation's deadliest cyclone, which killed at least 300 people in 2013 and left hundreds more missing.
It is expected to hit Somaliland as well

Coastal Puntland seems like the most dangerous region of Somalia when it comes to natural disasters.
That big tsunami a decade ago and then all these typhoons.

Tomorrow, they'll be complaining about drought. Rinse and repeat (no pun intended).

This cyclone might be the reason why there has been torrential rains all over SL this week!
Shyt is already causing havoc. Watch this fool @3:00, probably lost his life trying to save a bag of jaad. Look all this blessing turning into a tragic curse

. Imagine if the amount of cubic metre of water that's going through this doox in 10 mins was saved in a dam. Niyaw dadkena waxba ka siya walahi. Come June next year they will be complaining about water shortages in cities and villages.

Truck-load of the blessed leaves swept away by the raging waters! Tragedy at its worst, indeed. My heartfelt condolences to the affected.

It's going straight into Yemen. PL & SL will still suffer the long rage storms.
Its much worse in the south, El Nino caused it.

Why are they using the Sahafi hotel pic? It has nothing to do with the storm!
