The percentage given is only for Somalia proper (''British Somaliland'' and ''Italian Somaliland''). Basically mainly Hartis and Marehans.

It doesn't include Ethiopia which has a big Darod population.

Vast majority of Ethiopian Somalis are Darod. If the Ethiopian stats were included it would mainly boost Darod numbers more than any other clan.

You are right Itrah, the chart relates to Somalia only. Furthermore, it is a CIA estimate based on outdated and inaccurate data.

The Agro-pastoral DM & Bantu numbers are not properly represented. Clans have also been wrongfully labelled in Ethiopia and Kenya. Moreover, clans that are spread out over wide area, like my own, are also not fairly represented. Neither are the ones that have dual Somali/Oromo identities who number a million at the least.

Nonetheless, if one was to speak without bias the Darood are the largest on account of their cohesive identity and territory.

The fairest way to compare and estimate clan sizes is to look at the demographics of every Somali inhabited district in the Horn and then do a census based in their respective clan composition.

As for Ethiopia, Darood would not amount to more than 60 percent at the most. Look at the Official Ethiopian District like I did when debating TGS and Xamud, you will see what I mean. Land mass does not necessarily equate to size.

Liquid, everyone can throw facts and figures at their whim. The best way to settle this type of debate is to either go on a year long trek through every Somali inhabited encampment and do a census or rely on estimates, not necessarily reliable, made by the UN and government agencies such as the Ethiopian Census.

Some Somali clans are still overwhelmingly attached to the land and not urban. The Ogaden, for instance, do not have a city the size of the Isaaq or Majeerten but if I was a gambling man I would bet my life savings that they are more numerous than the Majeerten and are either equal in size to the Isaaq or slightly more numerous.

As for K5, I stated that they are 60 percent at the most but definitely above 50 percent. Check the population of each Woreda in K5 and you will see what I mean.
