Ever heard of the rendille(rer diid). A cushite/nilotic tribe living in northern Kenya. I always heard rumors of them till I got to meet them when I travelled to their heartland in Marsabit(northern Kenya). They look Somali but they dress like maasai. Most worship the ancient Somali god 'waaq'.
They speak af rendille which is around 60% pure Somali.
Some rendille elder I met told me their ancestors were a group of daarod camel herders who ran away from home and married nilotic girls.
Some angry faraxs decided to run away from home many years ago. They formed a new tribe!

Very interesting. They are a conglomerate. Half the clans have Somali or proto-Somali origins. Very resistant to outside pressures and influences. NOT Muslim. Reer diid indeed.

"Identity:
Visually the Rendille resemble other Cushitic groups with their fine facial features. As such they are quite distinct from the Nilotic and Bantu peoples of Africa. Linguistically the Rendille are most closely related to Somali and Aweer (formerly known as Boni). Culturally they are closest to the Gabbra, who have similar ceremonies to the Rendille. They are nomadic pastoralists, caring for goats, fat-tailed sheep and camels. Some families also now have cattle although the area is very harsh.
The Rendille proper, or "White" Rendille, consist of eight inter-related clans, plus one other clan called O'doola. The 8 clans are divided into two moieties, East and West. Related to their eclectic compositon, referred to above, Spencer reports that the clans claim descent from the following groups:
(Bold items indicate the Rendille clan, while bracketed items indicate clan or sub clan in neighboring group)
Somali: Saali (Fakhashiini), Dibshai (Rakhwen-Dafara), Matarpa (Ugaden), Nahagan (Ugaden), Nebei, Lekila (Saakh), Odoolah (Garri)
Boran: Dibshai (Furr), Tubsha (Deele)
Reshiat: Rongummo, Galdeelan (Spencer 1973, 147)"

They are a proto-Somali group. For sure our closest relatives outside the Somali proper, even more closely related to us, genetically (if phenotype is any indication) and linguistically speaking, than the Oromo and our fellow nomadic Afar kin.

Look more like Canfar than Somali, they seem to have more oblong faces
