Russia also said any talk of Assad stepping down in the upcoming Vienna peace talks is mute

Putin said Al Assad was democratically elected by 80% of Syrians in last years 2014 elections.

-Bashar Al Assad and his father before him (Hafez Al Assad) have been ruling over Syria for almost 50yrs.

-Everytime there is an election, he somehow manages to win 90% of the vote.

-Last election was 2014 while Syria was going through the worst of the civil war, and the government only controlled 1/3rd of the country.

-He claimed over 90% of Syrians re elected him to a 3rd 7yr term. Russia, Iran and Venezuela were the election observers and they said it was democratic and fair.

-The Allawites (Reer Assad people) are no more than 15% of the Syrian population, but rule over the Sunni majority.

Before the onset of the civil war in 2011, people were peacefully demonstrating in Damascus calling for him to step down, but what does he do instead, he sends the army and kills them. Then calls them terrorist.

And mind you, there were no ISIS in 2011. Infact the ISIS terrorist didn't join the fight until 2013.

Rumeeso ama ha rumeesan, Assad would leave one way or the other. Its just sad he destroyed his country in the process.

Such a shame.

LooL legitimate government. So Asad was elected by his people, and not his father handing him power after he died.

Yea sure.
