Basically--the middle man--AKA -the bank is replaced by kiosks that offer money exchange for mobile "money". U get to pay the taxi driver, your bills with few button touch of mobile buttons. U don't need a bank account or credit history. Good for them. I applaud the adoons!

The new Tiger economy of Africa, or Lion economy is Ghana.
Ghana is heading quickly towards Newly industrialized economy,
its the most modern economy in Subsaharan africa, outside of South Africa.
I would say its more modern than Algeria and Tunisia in its manufacturing capabilities but short of Egypt.

Kenya is not the new china in Africa!!!!! Corruption is killing the economy and contributing to less FDIs. Also their intervention in SOmalia is killing an important foreign currency earning sector.

Have you read this? Granted, there are some untruths in the article but somethings like " buying ballpoint pens for 85 dollars" and condoms for 000s dollars has been established.

Nigeria and South Africa are the old tigers. The new tigers are Angola (you can't imagine infra projects) and Mozambique. Tanzania is also doing very well. Ethiopia is also doing well.

In terms of GDP growth most sub-saharan african countries have been witnessing more than 6% growth/year over a decade. But, growth is relative.

Yea Ghana is doing pretty good from what i heard. I was going to say Angola, because the Chinese are rebuilding the country like crazy, but they have too much of a gap between the rich and the poor. The cost of living in the capital city, Luanda, is much higher than London or NYC.

In east Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia are the two economic miracles, and maybe Djibouti.

Their electricity costs are very low due to Volta lake dam. Same thing for Egypt and the Aswan dam.

Since most african countries, even South Africa, cannot manage thermal power generation, the only road to industrialization is hydropower due to its reliability. They literally cannot screw that up

Angola's boom is like the chinese; based on infrastructure projects; roads, rails, housing. Do not worry about inequality there will be a trickle down effect. Luanda is very expensive. It takes 6 months to book a good hotel.

The whole of Africa is growing- albeit from nothing. Kenya has problems of graft and if things are not changed, it will collapse and default on loans. Ethiopia is doing very well.



Gabon, EQ guinea and other west african countries are doing great took.

Kenya could be up there with the best or on top but what do you with the widespread corruption?

From the president to the cleaner each and everyone of them is a thief stealing from their own pocket. And the funny thing is, this not a recent thing, people have been stealing since independence and there is still some more to be stolen. You can imagine how rich it's considering the never ending stealing spree. If only they weren't corrupt?

Guys....lets STOP hating OK. Let us give Kenya the due and credit it deserves! For sure--money wiring business from Somalia is a phenomenon of the past--but right now--we are congratulating Kenya for a job well done!
