Illinois professor suspended for saying Muslims, Christians worship same God

A tenured political science professor at Wheaton College, an evangelical university outside Chicago, has been suspended after she wrote in a Facebook post that Muslims and Christians worship the same God.

Dr. Larycia Hawkins wrote on the social media site on Dec. 10 that she was donning the hijab head scarf during the period of advent before Christmas as a sign of solidarity with Muslims. In her post she said "we worship the same God."

After that statement drew criticism, the school said Hawkins was on administrative leave.

"In response to significant questions regarding the theological implications of statements that Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Larycia Hawkins has made about the relationship of Christianity to Islam, Wheaton College has placed her on administrative leave, pending the full review to which she is entitled as a tenured faculty member," said the statement, issued on Tuesday.

Wheaton College spokeswoman LaTonya Taylor did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for information about how long the suspension would last, how unusual it was and who would conduct the review. Hawkins also did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The college said that when they participate in causes, faculty and staff must faithfully represent the school's evangelical statement of faith.

On her Facebook page on Dec. 10, Hawkins said she would wear the hijab in solidarity with Muslim neighbors. "I stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book."

Hawkins, who has written on race, religion and American politics, said she had consulted with the local chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations, an advocacy group, to make sure that it would not be seen as offensive for a non-Muslim woman to wear the headscarf.

The solidarity gesture comes as Muslims around the United States report worries of a backlash and growing Islamophobia after a couple who had pledged allegiance to the extremist group Islamic State killed 14 people in California in early December.

After she was criticized for saying Christians and Muslims worship the same God, Hawkins said on her Facebook page that there are convincing arguments for expressing religious solidarity with Muslims and Jews and asked people who do not agree with her to accept her love and her offering of peace. It is my undestand that the jews who are talked about in this instance are ,according to a more knowledgeable man in Islam than me , 2 or 3 tribes of the area for political reasons . Doesn't mean in no way that all jews are either the same or those of today should be hated for the political stands of the ones 1500 yrs ago. Put yourself in the shoes of jew of that time for a minute here . If you believe that you're of the first religion, Musa {as} , you could tolerate Jesus for him being essentially of your people , but would you join the latest ? Being who I am , I don't think I would Supremacist ideology and tribalism are at the chore here , which was the norm in those days .{ unfortunately for some us , to this day }

I believe in terms of the uniqueness of God as well as genetics that the original jews are closer to me than most of the christians in this world , but that's just me, what do I know ?

Who cares what a dumb, f/ck fake professor - who false "embraced" Islam in order to undermine it - states.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah being upon him) had existed, married, and conveyed the religion of Islam to the whole world. We have prophecies being fulfilled, we have Ahlul-Bait (the descendants of the Prophet (pbuh)), and we have the Holy Quran. That is a living proof.

At a conference in Cairo he presented a research paper and stated:

"It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur'an about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, or Allah, because most of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of God, or Allah." [1]

Professor Moore also stated that:

"...Because the staging of human embryos is complex, owing to the continuous process of change during development, it is proposed that a new system of classification could be developed using the terms mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah. The proposed system is simple, comprehensive, and conforms with present embryological knowledge.

"The intensive studies of the Qur'an and Hadith in the last four years have revealed a system of classifying human embryos that is amazing since it was recorded in the seventh century A.D... the descriptions in the Qur'an cannot be based on scientific knowledge in the seventh century..."[1]

So the Muslim professor is a "Fake professor" but the Christian one is more knowledgeable than me simply because she says something that soothes your mind?

That is a "scholar" just like the Christian Scholar.

Christians and Muslims are seeking to worship the Same God, but Muslims are doing it the wrong way. However, I'd find the Muslim who genuinely believes that I'm a non-believer who is worshiping the wrong way to be more honest, than a Christian professor who can make such a nonsensical politically correct comment.
