Eritrea is an independent state, but Somaliland is an autonomous region in the Somali Republic. I am not sure why people are comparing an independent state with a region (Somaliland) in another independent state (Somali Republic)?

I am all for reducing Iran's influence in the region, let them go play with their Russian friends in Afghanistan. I think Eritrea was a seating observer in the arab league , non voting member up to now

In Somaliland everything is de facto independent. the government, the press, the people, even the fish is independent in Somaliland.
