I think it comes from the custom of a young man castrating/emasculating a rival and taking the genitals for a trophy. Heard this came from the cafar who used to practice this until very recently. in fact, in July 1997, during the FRUD conflict, about a dozen djibouti soldiers were ambushed somewhere at the front and their caadhs were allegedly cut off from the rumours that were going around while I was there on vacation

Thanks Skippa...but the term wuxuu ku caan baxay Oromada, not Afarta. From what I remember (if my memory serves me right) there use to be rumours about Oromos doing what you described to young male in Djibouti. Kind of like.... Serial caadh cutters.
