The good people of ceerigaabo speak of the matter somaliland gov adjusted the exchange rate to $6000 Somaliland shilling now equals $1 US dollar but the prices of goods have increased and it has put a burden on the people.

Why not just peg it to the dollar? I think that would be better and cut down on inflation.

It's already pegged to the US dollar but the dollar got too strong and inflation occured so they had to adjust it to stop inflation but now market prices has increased drastically, and they haven't put in place any other policy change besides that.

This what happens the when government and the business private sector are too different entities, the gov will have to come up with a solid monetary policy and sit down with the key business private sector to curve the skyrocketing market prices.

Oh ok. So its these so called 'Business' people who are jacking up the prices, even after everything was adjusted.

Yes it's the business owners( whole sellers) they trying to profit as much they can before government implement new policies.

It's really the gov fault they are too liberal and have let the private business sector gone unregulated for too long.

I am usually a pro capitalist and believe the market determines the true cost of items and what people are willing to for.....but...

I believe the government should get involved and set the prices for CAANO, SONKOR, BARIIS and other necessary goods. A set price.

Anyone caught charging more or trying to profit should be fined or worse, losee their ability to sell anything again.

It's a country by the rich for the rich. The crazy part is, The poor everyday people will die defending to maintain the status quo

Yes, games that's right they should atleast set fair market price on food goods.

You obviously don't know much about trade and currency, the Somaliland's market is not official, the market is flooded with $US it should have long ago gone down ( the dollar) if the market functions officially and since it doesn't , the traders downgraded the Somaliland shilling ( not due to solid economic reasons , just pure opportunism since now they can have more Somaliland shilling for less dollars and later less dollars for Somaliland's shilling during the exchange making a killing both ways).

The question is simple why Hargaysa, Burco , Ceerigaabo or mainly Isaaq regions suffer from this deadly inflations despite the influx of the largest amount of hard currency???
