Glossary - Help for Terminology
To help the dhaqan-celis, ajnabi, and newcomers; we need a glossary to define common terms. We can use this thread when someone doesnt understand something.
So I will list a few. Objective answers please. Let me know;
1. who/what the word refers to
2. origin/background, how the word came to mean that
3. is it vey rude, somewhat rude, neutral, respectful
So lets start with:
Cagdheer
Dabodhayac
Ilkayar
Eydoor
Dhabodhilif
Faqash
Hutu
Jeberti
Culusow
AbdiProzac
Afweyne
Garguurte
Murursade
Jawaari
Feel free to throw in nicknames I havent mentioned.

Faqash= currently a derogatory term for Daaroods and originally for anyone who was a pro Kacaan regime as well as the Somali National Army
Hutu=A derogatory term for Hawiye's
Jeberti= Daarod
Culusow- HSM..
AbdiProzac=Abdiwali Gas, coz he is a bit special
Afweyne= He had a big mouth on him, also a very greedy I bet
Garguurte=HSM, because he at times is accused of being very slow and indecisive, hense the word, Gurguurte meaning the crawler
Murursade=This is an actual name for a sub clan of Hawiye
Jawaari- His actual surname I think
Feel free to throw in nicknames I havent mentioned

This is an intended pun I reckon. It's referring to Ali Khalif Galayr, who was chased from his HQs and Cabdi Bile was the fastest man in Somalia at one point and was also a DHB, hence , Ali Bile KalaydhiWhere does the "Bile" come from. Explain baan raba. Im guessin "Cali Bile" was a famous runner

AbdiProzac -
Refers to dubious character named abdiweli mohamed ali gaass, the current incumbent leader of break-away state of Puntland, he is referred to as AbdiProzac because he is on a triple cocktail of high strength antidepressant, anti-psychotic and Anti Anxiety medications to help him cope with the somewhat impossible task of running Puntland.

Re: Glossary - Help for Terminology
Thank you Agent477. I figured from context Cali Bile must have been a famous runner.
I think Ilkayar are Marexans, but of course the origin is what I was looking for.
Kacaan seems to be Siyaad Barre's regime, but is there more to the story than that. I mean Kac=Get up, so Im curious.

Re: Glossary - Help for Terminology
There are Muslims in Ethiopia/Eritrea who claim descent from Abdirahman ibn Ismail Al-Jabarti, and call themselves Jeberti.
Should we embrace them as our Darood kinsmen?
But my question, is Jeberti a derrogatory term here on this forum. Ive only seen it used my those who wish to speak ill about the noble sons of Aqiil ibn Abu Talib
Idoor is in the same boat. Its a name of their ancestor, but only their haters use it. So does that mean its derragatory?
Im guessing nothing is as bad as the F-word (F***sh)

Re: Glossary - Help for Terminology
No Jeberti are not all Muslim. The Jeberti live both in Eritrea and Ethiopia. They are Tigrais who converted to Islam. Some practice Orthodox in Ethiopia while others were later converted to Catholic by the Italians in Eritrea.
Jeberti were traders who moved around Eritrean and Ethiopian cities.
In this forum Jeberti is Darod.
ilkayar (small teeth) is Marehan
Idoor (trader) is Isaac
Hutu is Hawiye, because they killed many civilians and looted cities like Rwanda.
Cagdheer (big foot) is Ogaden
Kacaan - to rise/uprise, was the socialist Government of Siad Barre. The official name for the revolutionary party was; Goolaha Sare ee Kacaanka (The Supreme Revolutionary Council). The term towrada was used too for the revolutionary. The Kacaan was uprising to what they regarded dependent system, lack of Somali literature, lack of food basket, tribal issues, occupied lands, insufficient government.
Example of song praising the revolutionary social of Siad Barre; Towradatan baraakaysan (this blessed revolution), talabadi aan qadne (to take the step forward/move forward)
