In regards to Ethiopia and Somalia historical battles, the famous author of the Mad Mullah of Somaliland Douglas Jardine made an amazing observation about how the Ethiopians feel when Ogadenis are coming: " The Abyssinians, it seems, fear the Somalis very much. I have never seen men so afraid as they are now; they have given rifles to the children to show they have troops here."

In defining a typical bush and pastoralist Somali, the explorer I. N. DRACOPOLI writes about Ogadenis in Jubaland in 1890s" These people wander through the interior of Jubaland in endless search of water and pasture for their stock. Wild and warlike at heart, the true Somali finds peace only in strife, and freedom only in a restless life"

I once asked my grandfather why the Ogadenis don’t brag about that rich history and being responsible for defining what it means to be Somali, and his response was “Qof aan isku kalsooneyn baa faana”. When I see the puffery and hoopla of other clans here and then realize that even though there are over 15 Ogadenis on this site, it is often only The Patriot aka Django and myself who write anything about our clan’s history. I can understand mine but I gotta give credit to Patriot. For those who don’t know me, I am Makaahiil and there was a time that we were fighting so many wars in so many fronts that other OGs tried to intervene and stop us from fighting. After they failed to stop the Makaahiils, one of the elders uttered “Makaahiil iyo Malmal midna sooma macaanaado”.
